Hello fellows,
I'm looking for a way to improve my mixes and it seems that using busses (submix of tracks) is a nice way to "gel" things together by using specific treatments on group of tracks (eq / comp / saturation mainly). I usually send my kick + bass to a specific bus to control the balance of it against the other elements.
I wonder if any of you use it and how.
It seems specially nice on percussions (applying a little bit of parallel saturation
glues the highs and make it an easily recognizable element for the listener).
How to structure the busses ? How many busses should be used ?
I think it's would also ease mastering by using "stems".

using groups can be really helpfull..but it allso can kill your mix...
if u send kick and the Bass to the same group u keep their balance together but u sum it before the main mixer and it will effect their sound...
i will advice u to group some "background" sounds for start and to S.C compress them with the main Lead sound...
or to group several lead's that playing in the same time and compress them...
when 1 of the leads is going out the levels of all the others will raise up |

How does sending the kick and bass to a bus affect their sound? I'm curious because I currently send my k/b to one bus. I also use sending to bus to have a nice display of multiple channels combined volume (k/b, percussion and k/b and percussion together).
I was suggested by a producer friend of mine to send groups of channels to different buses and use a light compression on that bus channel (I group percussion, synths/leads, and fx/pads and add light compression). Thoughts on this?
