What is important to know about your daw??? I dont mean all the basics about editing and recording, but what are things that are good to learn to master your daw? I try to experiment with my daw of choice, cubase, and sometimes good things come out of it too But I dont know what techniques and tweakage is possible, so im looking for some input or inspiration. Things like time stretching and reversing are things ive just started fiddling with, so thats a reference

I don't know if there can me a "most important things about your daw" since usually what someone considers important is just what they use the most.

For Cubase, based on what I hear, offline audio editing is one of the best features. Not sure if it's the most important, but seems like everyone who uses Cubase finds lots of neat use with this.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

IMO the essential part of any software or creative interface is when you reach that level of knowledge where you can just express yourself creatively without getting bogged down in technical bullshit.

Basically when you're comfortable enough to settle into a nice quick workflow where your ideas can spread from your brain into the sequencer smoothly.

There is no direct path to this state, all you can do is continue working and pushing and learning your DAW as best you can.

If you find your workflow getting stale, or using the same tricks over and over - go for an external burst of inspiration - download a new plugin, look up a video tutorial, try an abstract method you haven't used before.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

in cubase a nice thing is the fade in/out ... to avoid clicks. you dont have to do every file seperatly.
just mark every file, and use the little triangle at the right/left bottom with the mouse.
try to improve bouncing workflow.           www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

orgy even more simple , check the zero crossing box in the preference to avoid all these fades, then zoom in a audio clip chnage his size and see it ll end automaticly on a zero crossing point avoiding any clips

For me, the ease of hands-on use (opposed to mouse use) is the most important thing now.

+1

basicly, learning everything that will minimize the time you spend on standart operations.

This may be hotkeys, templates, fx chains or whatever.

The way before idea and the sound should be SHORT           http://soundcloud.com/aedem
