Important RAM Question!

I read recently somewhere, that today's motherboards can't operate 4 sticks of RAM at the full frequency with Dual-channel. So getting 2 sticks of dual-channel RAM, both 1 gig each (2 GIGS total) would be much faster, than having 2 sets of 2 X 512 RAM (4 sticks total, 2 GIGS). Is this true?? Cause I want to buy only 1 gig of Ram at first and get the second gig later.

it is always better using larger memory modules.8x256, 4x512, 2x1024 would have been a better performer, and probably cheaper & faster data transfer. Ya can also use a 512 module and a 1024 togheter but it will not run in a Dual DDR mode. so go for 2x1024 if possible by the same manufacturer.

yes larget modules is better but, can you still run 4 sticks as Dual channel memory, that is, Dual Channel for 2 and dual channel for the other 2?

If your board is dual channel, you *always* want to install in pairs.

today, almost every ddr 400 dch motherboard comes with 4 ram slots, so make your decision based on how much ram you wanna have in those. the most common situation is that your mother supports up to 4gb non-ecc total memory...
i recommend some low latency (2-2-2-5) sticks, such as geil, ocz, patriot, corsair... also try to get some with a TCCD or BH-5/6 chip, they are fucking good memories, i saw benchmarks from a 2x256 conf that had almost 6gb/s transfer in sandra, which is more than a 2x512 generic mem bench.           (www) DarkPrisma.com.ar/ ~ FranticNoise.com.ar/ ~ Megalopsy.com.ar/ ~

I guess I am not asking my question in a clear way.
What I read is, dual channel won't run at max frequency using 2 pairs. So I shouldnt use all 4 ram slots, just 2, with double the RAM per slot. The problem is I don't want to make an investment in a pair of 1 gig sticks because I want only 1 gig for now. If I buy 2 sticks, for a combined 1 gig, then I can't buy 2 more later because 4 sticks of 516 are SLOWER than 2 sticks of 1 gig.

I happened to me once when i installed the second 512stick... The DDR freq booted in 320MHz but I forced it to 400 from the bios and never had a problem. If the sticks are good you shouldnt have any problems.
