Wow a big reviewer circle jerk in that case I may as well join in and say, labels! Send me some CDs already, I have none to review and then sell off.

Just don't send me full-on shite cuz I will give it a bad review. I am so serious. Hahaha... no, really.

well i dont think its a funny discussion really deathposture, damion and pr0fane for example are putting a lot of effort in giving a thorough and objective review of the cds they get, and in this way giving people the will to even check the CDs mentioned which is a big help to most labels and might even convince some more ppl to actualy purchase those cds or screen the bad ones out..

In the state of our beloved scene and market this is not something you should laugh about or mock its something you should respect and support!
Or am i the only sane person here? I hope not

I agree and would add that Selling promos is really not that cool.

Regardless if released or not. I only send promos to ppl i have befriended. Promos should be treated like presents in my book.

I appreciate the publicity we get from these reviews, and the time that is put in to create them. But I really dont think it is fair to sell those CDs.

cheers,

I run sundance records & demion tea records & are involved in a 3rd label , more details soon.

When i give a promo to someone, thats my decision, what they do with it is up to them. If they review it then i send them more promos. if they dont do anythting qwith it, i dont send more promos.

If they have reviewed it & then decide they dont want to keep the promo, then well they are wellcome to do with it what they like.

Just like when you give a present to somneone, once its theirs they are welcome to do with it whatthey like.

If i was asked on an overall basis about whether promos should be sold or not , of course i would say no to selling them, becuase if i said yes then arsehoels trying to take advantage of such situations would be there to rip me off.

But in the case of Damion brown, he does very good reviews, and puts in alot of millage regarding promotion.
He certainly shouldnt have to spend his own $$ trying to give away cds just as to be "techincally correct".

Promos being asked not to be sold is to stop arsehole shops that get a stack of promos that they are suiposed to hand out to the leading DJs that patronage their shop, its not supposed to be a law or rule to stop some reviewer clearing out his thousands of dodgey releases he has from promos over the last 5 years.

My guess is he didnt sell TALPA : )

I bet he didnt sell other good releases eitehr hahahaha.

Once again, i run labels in this scene now for 8 years & i say damion is more than welcome to sell any promo that i have sent him... i gave it to him, its his,. now he can do with it what he wants.

The point of no sell promos is so that the promos do promotional work , instead of lining someones pockets. once the promotional work is done, that cds promo life is OVER!!!

Hey, Lotus- what ticked you, hey?
You don't like Damion? You don't like his reviews? You don't like him getting CDs for review?

Or is it that you think the subject of selling promo copies by reviewers deserves ethical and moral discussion?

hmmm... I find it hard to think it's the second from the way you presented things.

I have a general uneasiness with your approach to the subject especially that I can't seem to forget a PM you wrote our Aleph Zero PR man (me) once, when he didn't want to send you a copy for review.

As for the second topic, being there from both sides- a PR and a long time reviewer, I support Franny completely- what a person does with the promos he gets is entirely his business, especially that in our business non of these people get paid for the reviews they're doing- and it's fucking hard work, and quite time consuming. And that goes especially for Damion, who writes some of the better reviews around- not just describing what he hears, but actually absorbing the music and commenting on it. I personally sold stuff I had here and didn't have anything else to do with- I thought and still think it's fair for all the hardwork I've been putting into my reviews, calculating the time I've put into my reviews over the years and the money I got for selling those CDs will yeild a very sad financial bottom line.

And Damion, you really don't have to get so Englishly pissed about this spewing drunk curses all around you You don't want to see the mental image I had of you when I read your post... hehe...

Now, if you guys don't mind, I'll be the big nanny you always force me to be and end this stupid kindergarten fight. If you really wanna discuss the subject of- should or shouldn't reviewers sell the promo copies they got and don't want anymore- you're more than welcomed to start again, without the personal fighting and bickering, and I'll be happy to contribute.           ---------------------------------------------
