Why are labels so important in Psy/Goa Trance...look at any other genre of music..no one really care what label the stuff was released on...then how come so much importance is given to what label a certain artist is with???           ....good fudge comes on slow!!!

labels are important everywhere except probably in pop music where the artist is above the label.

In electronic music a label is as important as the artist.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

with psy/goa, i find labels to be the easiest common element to organize and sort releases, and little else. trying to build artist-based discographies would be tough since so many artists do collaborations, side projects, etc... so keeping track can get hairy. however, labels seldom collaborate so its easier logistics. in terms of musical vision... sometimes i find that becomes readily apparent, but the focus is seldom narrow enough to define a particular ideology or intent in my mind... the message most labels seem to send is "here is some great music to party to"...

but to respond directly to the original post - i believe that labels are less important in psytrance than they are in other genres of electronic music. we have the most artist-oriented scene in the world aside from perhaps idm (or whatever you wanna call it). in a lot of scenes the heirarchy normally runs DJ > Label > Producer. at least, thats how I've found jungle, house, techno, trance, hardcore, and others to be, mainly.

look at the labels listen to the commoon sound of the tracks they release. Spiritzone for example... very very good stuff. they go for alot of ranges in music. Full on-- melodies- chill out...

without a label whose putting up the cash to release your cd all over the psy loving world? Theres alot of money involved andalot of theft involved thats where we get into artists bitching about mp3s when they really only make dough from a live show. Blah blah end of my comment is the Importance of labels is equal to the importance of a musicians, producer, or on the lowest link of the food chain, DJs. without these elements none of it would mean jack.           -=Keep it Spiritual=-

I don't really pay attention to which label is bringing it out .. always the Artist and when I flip the CD over while listening to it I'll notice which label funded it ..
Labels blow alot of cash in promoting an album but there main function in supporting an artist is to bank roll the production of the release. Their support can provide the funds for equipment/hire purchase, access to better quality consoles, studio time if necessary, covering the costs of mastering, pressing, artwork. So to recoup the costs in producing a masterpiece they have to get the word out about it ..
Labels are really important for trance to survive .. and the people who suffer most is teh labels from downloading .. imho though the artist does benefit with availability but suffers in payment which is recouped in a live performance fee at a better rate than record sales profit .. and if the labels expanded their business focus could profit from the downloading too ..

I look very close to what label is releasing what in the 'psytrance scene'. I know what labels stands for quality, and what labels release the music I like, and in generel what kind of music they release. Labels means a big thing for artists and for people who care about the music, it's more personal in this scene because it's not that big.
