Much is talked around about overcompressed therefore VERY LOUD (lowdynamic) productions these days... i would like to know what do you think / know from playing on big systems (something wich i've never done, yet) in relation with how loud your music is.

What? Well... reaction of the crowd, comments, quality, impact on speakers... everything you can think off related to this.

I wish just to know; since i just discovered how i can get commercial max levels i want to understand how this can be better done and perfected so it still sounds good, specially at PA, i am talking about limiting at -0.3db with a -12 for treshold (raw example).

Just for the record, i know what is best is to handle material to mastering engineer and all of that, but i am not talking about mastering, just about the LOUDNESS issue, i'm sure you can help me clear this concept and improve my sound.

Most of the tracks I play in my sets are unmastered. I just get the engineer to turn the volume up a bit (or do it myself) and guard the trims closely.

It sounds pretty good, even tough its always nice to get a second pair of ears & speakers to tweak your sound before its "done".
It seems that many pa's are very limited/maximized (or whatever youd call that), cause you just seem to hear more of the top layers of the music(the biggest elements rather than the smaller ones), but professional mastering/compressing the tracks right seems to get more of it glued together and more audible than not done.

Anyways, people never seemed to mind a peak here and there, and ive had the dancefloor boiling several times

Then again I hear people speaking about that dynamics/dynamic sounds are important for them, but still they're style of music is totally non progressive, just the same amount of sounds/energy all the time. Thats not dynamics for me either!           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

aciduss, non-crushed music will have more impact and punch IF the PA has the extra headroom to allow you to turn the volume up. The problem is that very often the PA is running at full power all night long. If you then go from a loud mastered track to a non-crushed unmastered track, you loose quite a bit of volume on the dance floor. The crowd usually doesn't like that too much.
