just simple question to you freak guys...
im thinking about buying new comp...i need an opinion about this iMac with intel inside(2ghz, 1gb ram,250gb harddisk)...it looks great especially with 20' lcd:) i just don't know if the performance of this beauty is as good as it's in normal pc in the same price range which is, let us assume about 1300$...i know that most of you are using pc for doing your stuff but anyway any ideas?tips?what to do with 1000-1300$ if i wanna buy good comp for cubase, reaktor, vsti etc. to let's call it "homestudio"
thanks in advance for any ideas

hey, my recomendation its not to buy the new mac's intel based because they have a little bit of problems with audio, wait a couple of months to buy a mac because they are having problems, so the next models are going to be better than this ones!

Not sure if there are problems.
But buying an iMac for a studio is not a great move. You probably want a strong machine with options to add hard drives and RAM - and another display.
And if you want to run Cubase, then the best would be to get a nice PC - it'll be cheaper.

jep, get a pc (i can recommend an intel based one (processor AND chipset), i'm happy ) and put at least 2GB of ram if you're working alot with samples. watch for the pci express bus problems (there were some, some time ago) and why not go dual core as it gets well utilized as my own tests showed me.
good luck! |

thanks for your opinions...but can someone explain me why most of the pro artists/producers work in their studio on mac's? for example powermac g5(power pc g5 dual 2ghz, 2gb ram.etc) you can get this one for 1200$.i guess that's not just this nice apple on case:)
so what is the answer?
thanks!

If someone needs a mac to run music programs like DP or Logic or Protools -
and who like OSX
will probably buy a mac.

Now that the Core 2 Duo iMac is out, are the audio issues fixed? Is there any reason to not buy one the 24 inch iMac for music production? Thanks |

Oh god I hope not. i just bought a motu and was planning on getting that 24inch iMac. Power wise though, I should be able to run Ableton, a bunch of vsts and Logic right? my iMac g4 800mhz stalls all the time using Ableton and I need a machine that won't do that for the next 4 years. Am I cheating myself by getting this new iMac... I'll be putting 2gb of ram and getting the 2.33ghz option. |

well i believe that there is few minor issues over the mac intel... however since the whole transition to the processors will take some time for developers to fix... sometime not really far will be fully compatible. |

Thank you for your feedback. I guess I can look over at motu.com and see what they have to say about it. All in all I still see so many psy artists using Macs, so I figure I can not go wrong with using what I have been for years. I'll let you guys know what happens |

i use a macbook with intel core duo. with bootcamp it runs under win xp and with fl studio i have no problems. only the keyboardlayout is not totaly fixed for the windows world( i think tis will be fixed in a future release of bootcamp) the mac osx is good for surfin the web. if the day will be come that fl studio runs on osx i will switch totaly to the macworld.
i think the imac is an good offer for that people who dosnt want play with windows installer cd's and a lot of driver discs.
i dont want make a promotion for mac but the macbook is the first pc ( ) that works from the first hour i get it.
in the new mac's you can put standard pc-ram and harddrives . so you can pimp it later. they have all usb and firewire , so you have a lot of ports to expand your machine.
(for all pc lovers - my main system is an amd64 win xp - dont kill me )
