^Totally unnecessary, imo.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

Since the hardware in a mac is regular PC parts you must have had some problem with your hardware.
Of course with a mac you do not have to research what is a good configuration since mac does use quality components, but there is certainly no difference in stability between a quality PC and Mac running XP since both are using standard PC parts nowadays.

The largest project I ever had with a bunch of omnisphere and stylus instances used almost 2Gb, so even with quite extreme usage the memory limit of 32bit windows has so far never been an issue for me.
And I would guess that it's a lot of devices that does not have mac drivers, and there is certainly a lot of software that doesn't have mac versions, so it's not like that is an issue is exclusive to 64 bit windows that one doesn't have to deal with on a mac.

Thas all true. I had problems with former hardware even though asus and / or intel.
And its also true that a quality stock pc will give you the same stability as a stock mac... but they are also at the same price.. wheras on mac you get two OS...
If you are willing to put research, time, etc. etc. to build a pc yourself it sure is cheaper as mac and can also be as stable... but I simply don't want to do that anymore. 15years is enough.
One day I realized that if I had earned money in all the time I spent on tweaking, reinstalling windos, fixing mistakes, building computers, reading reviews, buying parts, returning parts, selling parts.. I could have bought 7 macs... besides.. it would have been better for my nerves too..
I'm talking 15 years here! it's not that I had problems all the time.. but enough.
No, its all gone. I took it out of the box, started it, installed my soundsoft. works. no tweaking, don't use this, don't use that, set this like.. bla..

Well, my projects usually eat up 6-8 gigs of ram. load some orchester libraries and open as many plugins as I can on my octa core and you will get there too. I bought my self the luxury of never having to bounce. and being able to load without thinking.

Well, thats what I thought before I went to mac. What I experience is that everything which has professional quality, be it plugins or hardware has osx versions. (even cracked ones).
Since I'm on mac I miss one plugin: "Ibilit" its a free vst synth, which I like a lot.
I couldn't name one really professional tool or soft which wasn't available for mac... ok sonar.. but they are rare.

I understand your point subconscious you chose the solution that works from the start without spending your life sorting it out. So you choose mac pro.
At the end of the day you did what was necessary for you. Your motivation was stability, mine was gettting Logic. But at the end as converted guys we both agree on the same thing. It works better from the start (at least for us)
Although its is true that some people complain as well that their os crashes sometime on mac . It just never happened to me. The question is why?
Pipe&slippers, is it possible that the fact that you only have a gig of ram could cause the system sometime to crash because of memory overloading?
Or maybe its logic 7 which was buggy. or maybe simply the os which could just be more stable now with leopard . I don't know because I run osx for a year or a bit less on my main rig. But I never experience the slightest malfunction.
