Hello Triptocoma.
You should give up making music. I think it is realy not the hobby you should do. Go to ebay and sell your equitment as fast as possible. If you are not satisfied with the sequences and lines you edit over and over again, it might have something to do with the fact, that you just have no fabel for making music, right? Even if you made a 16 beat loop sounding nice, you will never be able to finish a whole fat-sounding track. Come on, just leave it. Just leave it, please.
I am right, yes? Ok, now I gonna stop making jokes.
Dude, first of all: Every musician knows that. A lot of talented musicians failed to have success not because of their music, but of theirselfes! Believe me, I know what I am talking about. Sitting there at home, getting completly crazy, because I always get to the point where all the flood of bad emotions about my own music is catching me in my own spidernet of frustration. Listening to stuff from Hommega or any other label you want is like a pure punch into the face which sounds like:" Man! You will never be as good as that stuff! Never", finally. After that I am done. You know.
So you might see: To be a musician is not the challenge of producing good music. To be a musician is the challenge to surrender your ego(queen: "innuendo" - listen to it!).
This sounds paradox, yes - but tell me where the world is not paradox, today.
Many amateur-music-making people out there do not know that. Know, you now it, so you have got the first important lesson, now. Sit down dude and keep reading!
I make psytrance since 4 years now, I had a few releases and I am just working on my debut album. I am not a big artist for sure, but I strongly believe in myself and I met people which tried to finish me (corrupted labelowners for example), but I do not care about them. And I do not care about a year of feeling like just making crap music without any future, feeling like a little kid, getting nothing startet after trying over and over again. I gonna give you some tips, which helped myself and gonna help you, too.
1. Listening to released music.
If you compare your homestudio-sound with mastered high-quality music, you just feel done, right? There is so much psytrance music out there. So much sound without any importance for you. Do not listen to it at home. And just do not compare it. If you wanna listen to psytrance, go to a party. Listen to non-psymusic at home: Chillout, pop, ragga, classic(!), whatever you want. You gonna open your mind and you gonna feel a flood of new inspiriations from all the fantastic genres out there for your own psysound, instead of moving in the closed little room of unindividual released psychedelic trance. Since a few weeks I am a big fan of martin gore (depeched mode) and other 80s electro-stuff and its a hell of inspiration for basslines and rythm-patterns.
Find your muse.
2. Where is the bug? You said, that you make nice sound but later you feel unhappy with the same file in your sequencer. This is normal, because you went to fast. You have editet additional lines into the loop which just sound 80% and for sure, If you add just 80%-elements more and more you have just 10% at the end. So, If you have just a bassline, which makes you 100% satisfied, and after 3 weeks you do not find and synth, percussion, etc. pp. which also makes you 100% feeling good, the solution is not to edit 75% lines with the hope, that the sum will sound 100% again. No, simple mathematics, this doesnt work. If you delete it, wait for the killing element, make no compromisses. Try and try and try. And if it takes a year for 30 seconds fat perfect sound, which gonna make you happy everytime, it takes the hell a year. Who cares? I know, it is hard to keep going after hours of bad sounds, you always give up then, stop giving up, maybe an half hour later you got the one!(I often had that experience) If you have a loop ready and it sounds not good, take care over it and find the bug. Mostly its just the 4th bar note-velocity or the phasing of the bassline with the synth-2. After correcting details the whole sound changes into sounding murdering very often. And very often you do not recognize, that it is just a detail.
3. Finish the track.
The way to finish a track is very unbelievable. Many producing people do not know how to do it, because the key for it is very confusing and a hidden secret. Many new people who produce psytrance are failing to get it.
The key to finish a track iiiiiiiiiis (tadaaa..!!!!).....: Finishing the track.
I know its amazing.
Ok, lets get seriously: Finishing the track is the only thing where you are allowed to edit 50%- or 80%-quality elements, because after having 8 minutes of crap ready, you can get into the details and turn into a killing tune and because you gonna learn very much about editing and equing and arranging. So much that it would blast the topic here. If you have your first 8 minutes ready(ignoring the quality at first) you gonna have more feeling about your sound as you never had before. I promise you!
I hope, this will help you and others a little bit. Take care and surrender the ugly pig in your mind who tells you, that your music is shit. One day you gonna put in your tune and compare it to some released music and you will think:"Woooooooooooow!"  |

My ideology is that when you can't do something right, you might as well do it horribly wrong and make the track take use of this. Just improvise with what makes it sound cool and everything will be ok

you are correct of course! i will keep the struggle going and find the bugs in my system that brings me down....
all these words from everyone have given me new perspectives on things...
the battle might be endless but its time to show my self that i wont surrender..
kaz you have a point, and i will for sure take it to consideration

Kitnam - your words really made me think... it took a day to melt it all...
im very thankful for your words, they made realize what i should do to get my ideas to come true...
im not working on deadline, i dont have to speed things up so i lose perspective and control...
i´ve been blocked and locked, i have hinderd my self... but now i can go back and work slow and use my head.... its no use in trying to work over my own capacity...all those thing i´ve learnd have comed to no use this year... im going to use them now..
now i really feel the urge to make music from another approach...
a slower approach....
thanks again... time to open up cubase and work slow with my mind on alert...
