Don't get a manager (seriously, DO NOT GET A MANAGER), just post in the North America forum that you are looking for bookings. Not even the biggest names in the states have managers.
I organize parties in the midwest, pm me your info and I'll check it out. Always great to find new talent.
PS- Don't get a manager.

Thank you all very much for your much appreciated advice. I played at a small party in Harrisburg Pennsylvania and many many people came up to me and told me they really like my music.. afterwards I was pretty stoked and Im much more confident with my sounds.. All i really did was just put my tracks on a playlist though and let it run through.. I didnt have any of my gear with me...
WhaT IS the preferred method of playing that you guys use.. Do you guys use software like PCDJ To mix your tracks together... or use a multitrack program and play synths alongside your master tracks.. and tweak some filters a little bit?

get as many non-exclusive managers.
oh yeah its psy scene and its all gay and stuff.. people are stoners/trippers/thieves and you dont want to do business with them usualy..
but normal 10% of full booking price (after payment) is guarantee here.. as far i care anyone is my manager if he get the gig where i couldnt know of...
if you are directly the promoter im offering 100 promo cds for your crowd totaly free (with full price bookings) for conecting with the crowd better.
defintly if you have party promoter friends let them know.
getting the gigs only for your music? not happening , and toooo bad. myspace was helping alot before turning to spam-box.
once i thought only the music counts , now i understand its about 30% of the package www.sattelbattle.com

Elad- that also depends on where you're from. I'm friends with most all the big acts in the US, and those I'm not friends with (yet ), I at least know who they are. Sure you have to do something to get your name out there in the first place, but if you're a cool person and your music is good, word will spread easily enough since our scene is small. It's not like anyone has to continually try to get promoters to notice them, just post music and the rest will follow. http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

In the US, it`s not too neccesary to get a manager. I´ve even done pretty well in Europe not having one, but I make it a point to be accessible to people in one form or another. Also, your biggest calling card will be releases. Even if you don´t get money from it, it still will get you known. and that´s half of the battle. I would say that making contacts that you trust in certain areas are more key than having a booking manager. I have a few friends in different parts of the world that let me know if they know anyone who wants me to play, especially if I am already going to be on that particular continent.
A good tactic for playing in the US is to actually go to some events around there... Asheville isn´t too far away and they just had a nice event and will have another one in September. You need to find out who is doing what where, and get in touch. Works like a charm for me in the US, and sometimes abroad.

Someone posted a topic a while back asking if any artists make a living off producing and playing psytrance. The simple answer was- not many (this was from artists around the world). You'd basically have to make psy a hobby and do some other type of production as your full time job for something like that to work.
The US scene is absolutely not dead, it's just not as big as it is in other countries (as is the case with any genre of electronic music here). Mubali can tell you more about trying to make a career out of producing and playing out psy while living in the US/traveling overseas.
In the end though, if you catch the good vibes that are all around the psy scene and at parties, it won't matter. The lack of funds really adds a unique flavor to the scene and concentrates the focus on the music itself.

The only way traveling full time works for me is to completely have very little overhead. Recently, I took time away from traveling and touring a lot to be normal and get a job. Turns out that I honestly hated it and the call of the road came to me again. I have found a situation outside of the country where I found an affordable place to live and I can fly around Europe playing shows and still have my home base at least for a while.
This is not easy to do in the US. For the most part the scene in the US cannot financially fully support someone who just lives from performing. However, that being said unless you have a job that allows you to either telecommute or is a contract based employment where you're doing web development or something like that, you're not gonna be able to do too much traveling either.
My situation degraded to not being able to support myself with my job due to lack of hours and not having the proper education to get one that would support myself and have some flexibility to go and perform relatively far away. My personal advice is that if you can get a degree in something, ANYTHING, get it. You'll be surprised how even trying to get a simple receptionist job, the employers will overlook field experience for a degree. Such has become the way of the world. Keep going for that degree in sound design for video games, that's a good market that can open a lot of doors for you.
The most important thing is to keep doing what you're doing and keep making music and putting it out there. People will eventually get in touch with you based upon the merit of your music, not because some manager is forcing your music down their throat.
