hi guys, this review was written by sydney dj tract, posted on oztrance.com. Enjoy!

After a few moths of eagerly waiting for this latest offering from Tribeadelic and having watched I.O.S. perform live on several occasions I was hoping this release would live up to the previous fare from this Melbourne artist and I definatley wasn't dissapointed!. Crisp and clean production metted with tight musical structures and absolutley no rough edges. 10 tracks that will fill dancefloors without in any way resorting to formulaic cheese. I believe this release is indicative of the future of Tribeadelic records and I.O.S himself, expect even bigger things to come in the future from this label and artist..

Track 1 - Ancient.
As the haunting ambience drifts into this track I got the definate feel of an epic in the making and must say I was suprised at it's evolution into a deep and bass heavy trance monster. Very digital and spacious with synth lines that soar giving you room to move, very reminiscent of some early Cosma but with the IOS punchy basslines and slightly more menacing. A beautiful start to this album.

Track 2 - Nice use of panning in this track and many metallic nuances paired with yet another stomping and clean bassline. Boyant oscillations and climbing, twisting digital synth lines once again fill this with power and massive danceflor appeal. I found this to be in much the same vein as a lot of 3D vision releases but with a slightly darker and more menacing edge which really appeals to me. The channel crossovers are superb and compliment the driving edge very well.

Track 3 - God Fearing Creatures. I wasn't overly impressed with this track when I first heard it, I found it a little too liquid and murky. After hearing the sample though I must confess it grew on me as the track opens right up with a lot more space to room within it. More minimal than the first two tracks this track is redeemed by some very funky and mind expanding instruments that are heavily filtered for maximum psychedelic appeal.

Track 4 - Tone Generator - Moving into the heavier and much more intensly psychedelic sound this certainly delivers the goods. Opening with some lovely deep tones it effortly glides into another stomping psytrance number. Bouncy and slightly more melodic this has a very multidimensional sound with lots of depth of field and tweaky sounds to send you over the edge. The breakdown in this track also stood out, a tonal slide into a chatoic miasma of crossovers then straight back into the slamming bassline. Nice work!

Track 5 - Thanks . My favourite track on this album, absolute killer work from I.O.S. Very tight and very digital sounding, massive echoing spaces that roar into life with one of the most powerful basslines on the album. Again the crisp and clear percussive elements and vibrant screaming synthlines just compliment the work further. I was highly impressed with this track as it meets just the right combination of sheer power whilst also being deep and dark enough to drop into a night time set. When you hear the first breakdown and sample you will appreciate the talent of IOS. Pure gold and total psychedelic anhilation.

Track 6 - Albino. Highly reminiscent of Intergalatic and Talamasca but with the extra touches and melodies that define IOS as an artist. A clean bassline opening that very quickly opens up into an emotional and melodic stomper. Excellent synth lines and wonderful oscillators make this track, I found it got a bit repititious in parts but would be excellent in a mix as the structures are so strong and clearly defined.

Track 7 - Digital Self. Opening with a bleak and futuristic sample again I.O.S visits the Cosmochaos, Cosma sound but with his own brand of energy and drive. Tight 16th basslines and some spacially unwinding environments in which your head can play, the use of the Matrix samples are appropriate and definatley not cliched. It is an interesting piece of work too in that whilst it drives along it has an etheral and very space like sound but is still metallic and twisting. Unusual but with strong appeal.

Track 8 - A slightly more progressive and slower track than the others on the album, again in the powertrance vein but with some nice disjointed and psychedelic elements and filters. Bird noises and gentle percussion make for a very transisitional feel with a fatter and less banging bassline than some other the other tracks on this compilation. Nice use of samples too in that they are just audible and do not rise above clarity in the track making for a distant sound and definate morning appeal for a smooth transition.

Track 9 - Into melodic territory again in IOS unimitable style. Beautiful keyboards and climbing scales make for a very banging second last track on this album. I got the distinct impression of unwinding to this track in the peak of a psychedelic experience, nicely twisting and clanging instruments and the same spacious and clean feel that run through IOS work. Another aspect of this that had definate appeal was the bouncy feel, a departure from the other tracks on this album it was a welcome change in structure and sound.

Track - 10 Love those kicking hihats!. A steady kick with some driving breakbeats and screaming tones make for an appropriate and fitting conclusion to what is in essence an excellent Australian album from I.O.S.. I found a couple of the instruments in this track to be a bit coarser than some of the others on this release but it has to be said they are certainly unique and IOS must be praaised for avoiding the same sounds again and again.

The forefront of Australian psytrance beautifully packaged and awaiting consumption. Buy it, hear it, love it.... I give this album 8/10.           A TRIBEADELIC GATHERING
