Yeah right.

Yeah right.

Yeah right indeed! I think psy is easily up there as one of the most complicated genres to produce, and a lot of producers have very musical backgrounds, myself included.

Have you read his book Mixing with your Mind? It's been praised quite a bit.

I have, and it's an excellent book.

i cant find it anywhere else, besides de writers homepage or in american bookshops... i would prefer somewhere around europe...
back on topic:
i've learnt from *almost* everyone that has ever stepped into my studio...
having the possibility of spending some studio time with a "professional" would be great, but i can really pick someone... maybe the guy from absolum or deedrah... but almost anyone else would be fine...
colin & jivamukti, if you ever come to lisbon and need crashing pad... the same goes for angelina jolie... lolol.. roll a joint or STFU :) |

i think that lot of ppl now is producing psytrance which no thinking... its not deep, arrangements are cheap, sounds are cheap, not much work put in it... it's really chaotic for me.. there is some nice productions going out for sure, but 3/4 of all stuff i don't like...
of course you can not-agree with me and i understand

There are so many good pro's... If i could choose anyone in the entire world i'd invite Quincy Jones and Richard d. James. I can't decide between the 2... |

I kinda half agree with K!ller Inst!ncT in that there is probably more average productions out there than amazing ones, but seriously, its like that with any genre of dance music! Out of all types of electronica, psy is definatly all round one of the better produced and more musically complex!
You can probably get away with producing average psy with very little music knowlage, but the musicality of good psy is far beyond most genres of loop based dance music, and requires a reletavly deep understanding of harmonic structure, synthesis, and a decent grasp on music theory. (I reckon alot of good psy artists would be at least familiar with the harmonic minor scale, which is very common).
I'm an experianced live musician, but up until a few years ago, I (stupidly) hated basically all electronic music and thought that it was mostly talentless garbage. Infected Mushroom changed my viewpoint on that, and now its almost all that I listen to! Then I got some equipment and started producing etc.
Its probably suprising to know just how many psy artists actually are talented instrumentalists and composers. I'm willing to bet there is alot of them. Most psytrance doesnt just fall out of an Akai S5000!!
Anyway, sorry, onto the topic!
If the studio time had to be with psytrance artists, it would be ---- Simon Posford, Infected Mushroom, Protoculture, Skazi, GMS, Boris Blenn, John '00' Flemming, Mood Deluxe, Yahel and Sirius Isness.....plus a few others.
With anyone else other than psy producers, it would be Brian Transeau, Peter Gabriel(SSL!), ATB, Brian Eno and of course Michael Stavrou!!!
(Holy shit I have to buy "Mixing With Your Mind!!!").
Peace friends! |
