Stay on topic boys and girls. Go wedgy each other in private!
1 tip - Have 2 seperate installs of Windows if you've only got one computer. One for audio, and one for Internet-general jacking off-etc..
Optimize the audio partition for audio, remove all network compatibility. Not only will your audio install work much better/quicker and not get bogged down by spyware, you will also not be interrupted by annoying chat messages/emails etc..

Actually I never thought of it this way. Its only a rule of production. OK cool.
Its just that this litany is repeated on this forum so often in the context of music I made a false association. Apologies.

Sorry about the off topic but i have to respond.
bukboy it's ok man, no problem. Just don't be in such a hurry to jump to conclusions. This is not the only music forum that exists.
So, out of this maybe another tip comes off, that clarifies and fills in my first tip.
Music creation(composition, arrangement etc.) and its quality perception is a totally subjective issue whereas music production(seen as technical skills for manipulating the sound) is a totally objective issue.
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |

Believe in yourself.
You CAN do it. Sure you can. It might take time. It might take a lot of your sweat, but you can do it.

Your room acoustics are equally, if not more, important than your monitors & DAC. If you intend to mic record, mixdown and/or master in your studio, get acoustic room treatment, particularly for low frequencies.

take your time...
you may be thinking about your first gig, and the screaming fans, and chicks wanting to get with you, but if this is the objective, then you should quit hanging out here, and do some soul searching, and come back when you feel the muse
the muse is the most important thing for an artist - the feeling that someone is listening when there is no one there, the feeling that what you are making is coming alive. especially with electronic music, you can easily copy a style, but the time put in and enjoyment that comes from developing your own style and methodology is the penultima for any artist
thats the advice I would give. don't be in a hurry, enjoy your musical adventure, and when people hear and like your stuff then you know its time to start thinking about gigging. it can take 5, 10 years, or even longer... I think with Underworld it took along time
Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!
