Before you buy anything, assuming you have a pretty decent machine, get a decent audio interface and monitors....

If it sounds good, it is good.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

Good tip, but have you tried this? It really is harder than you think, especially when everybody else is attaching you to the music...           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

Your room acoustics are equally, if not more, important than your monitors & DAC. If you intend to mic record, mixdown and/or master in your studio, get acoustic room treatment, particularly for low frequencies.

(Thanks Ethan Winer @ RealTraps.com & Glen and Bryan @ GIKAcoustics.com for enlightening me!)

Limit yourself, at first, to one decent synth, EQ, delay, and reverb. Use them until you've learned every little nuance of each. Don't get buried in the thousands of plugins available, it's distracting.

No synth or plugin makes good music - that is up to you.

Get a pen and paper and write down a long random string of letters and numbers, like this (make sure you use a fair few capital letters in there too):

tHjs49dhJ2hHdkfh4Bh9sbdkDkdsW7

Next, go to all the forums you're a member of and change your password to what you wrote down. Now log out of all the forums.
