Sarasin - you are correct, more labels is not the solution to the problem. There are just as many labels out there that are as unreliable as artists. But at least with labels you know where you stand. When I buy a release from Alchemy, or Hommega, or Iboga, or Neurobiotic, or Twisted - I know what I'm getting will be high quality. Those labels don't flood the market, they put a good month or two between their releases (sometimes a lot longer, when your name is Simon) and then release a quality production. How, through a website that allows content from anyone, will that sort of quality level be maintained?

Talamasca - listening to the track from start to finish is not as helpful as you might think. It means in an hour you can listen to what, 7 tracks? Maybe 8? When you have one track in 1,000 that is high quality - and that's what you'll end up with if anyone at all out there can put their tracks up - how long will it take until I find a decent track? Someone has to point me to those decent tracks. I don't have the time to listen to 999 bad tracks before I find a good one.

Jaimz, i think like most of these type of sites, there will be ratings to which trax are most popular etc.

Reading the agreement, it's worth noting that Trancepool pays its 70% royalties on 80% of gross revenue, ie. 20% of any money received from sales of downloads is taken to pay various fees necessary for the legal running of the site before the royalty calculation is made. This means that the artist or label will only actually receive 56% of money from sales.

It would also be useful to find out what arrangements can be made for payment when the amount is less than €100, which I can imagine would be the case quite often.

Great venture Cedric, I'm sure it can only work out well for you. We are considering using Trancepool to sell our old-school OOOD albums and EPs           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I read this topic from beginning from to the end and i am delighted with the whole concept. I must admit that I see something really big behind this..

And i agree about ratings!

And please make a tech-trance section!

Cheers!

well, again, i am not the OWNER of the site..i just asked the owner because i know him to build the same concept than his other website to do a trance website...i didn t know about it and yes you are right, it is 70% without taxes..like from company to company...always same story...but it is still a very good deal and a good way to promote our own music on our own websites...
Me, here, i am just the guy who convinced the owner to do it for us, trance music artists and labels, with the same conditions, and i will promote it because i trust the system...we are now working on a way to upload many tracks together instead of one by one..as soon as this will be fixed, i ll tell you here...

about the tech trance....where to put it ?...in psytrance ? hard trance ?

It's kinda hard with so many categories.... can be confusing sometimes. since it is a shop only for TRANCE, maybe it would be the best to make only a few categories and put them straight behind the main category which is trance.... anyway tech-trance is not a sub-category of psy-trance or anything else imho.... it is just tech-trance like psy-trance or prog-trance or goa-trance and so on....           www.parahalu.net

I think the point that Jaimz is making is that customers need an effective way of finding products they wish to purchase. Top-down quality control is one such method... but in the emerging digital economy effective tools such as recommendation engines can also function in a similar fashion. Listening to hundreds of tracks to find the diamond in the rough is labour-intensive and ultimately ineffective. Providing means for artists to sell their own work directly is pretty good... but still, the concept feels a few years out of step of current thinking. I would recommend reading up on the "long tail" at the very least; it is a fairly good starting point for going forward.

The more sub genres the worst...

Have you seen that on BEATPORT is horrible...

I mean in regards to minimal or techno... In the techno section there you find from 128bpms minus tracks to 148bpms Sven Wittekind tracks...
Something totally diff... And then you go into techouse and then electro and you find really weird tracks there, tracks that should be somewhere else... Sometimes they dont even SELL cause of that... People on Beatport always buy the tops and then go into the genres and search around... But like i said the "jewels" sometimes are in other places cause it was mislabelled...

Mostly on these sites its djs that use it so, please search around... Lose time getting diff music, in the middle of all this shit there is some nice stuff... I have discovered loads of interesting stuff just by losing maybe 5 hours a month browsing the new titles... Its one of those nice moments for me...

It should be maybe

Psy Trance (night, morning, dark)
Proggi (tech trance goes here and that electoproggi-house )
Chill Out

My 2 Cent...
Best of luck Cedric...

Well, Trancepool looks like a good concept but as Remy [POF], I think it is really easy to upload tracks from somebody else and pretend it's mine.

I'm sure I can upload a track from Principles of Flight and call it Noisy Pipes without any problem. hahaha! Remy, beware, I'm on it!

Categorization is out... tagging is in... no need to worry about genres or hair-splitting with tagging.
