Drum machine like the 909 for rhythm and main beat
Pan flute
Dig
variety of traditional drums and techniques
dulcimer
female vocals, not really lyrics but a good female vocalist can reall make a track.
I find a lot of stuff from Adham Shaikh, Makyo and Puff Dragon that has the 4/4 beat under it with their live and synth elements to much more trancey that 99.9% of what is called psy/goa trance.
I seriously find that some good tribal element mixed reall takes you deep into the music than melodies and acid line whirring every where and samples from Hollywood flix.
