Firstly I don't sugest you Spain for live now, there was better moments..

If you still like to spend some time here:

-Madrid is cheaper than Bcn.
-In Barcelona you probaly have to learn also catalonian for talk in some places.
-In Barcelona there are more counter-culture movements, Madrid is too silencious.

In Madrid, the scene is very underground (better), but almost weekly have a partys (Furthur, raves in Jarama, Patones and friend´s houses...)

well I lived there for about 5 years, but as already mentioned above i would not recommend you at the moment.
but if choose from those 2 cities, both are great but in different way, if you like more mediterrenean side, a bit more movement (internationally) then is Barcelona.
if you would something more typical spanish then is Madrid best option. as for the psytrance movement in/arround barcelona there is more movement in different styles. and also you have the Pyrenees very near so if you like montains/sea combo defenitley Barcelona.           to use your head you have to go out of your mind

I lived in Madrid for 2 years(studied in Sae there) and moved to Barcelona(also studied in Sae here),been living here for 4 years now.Madrid is a great city but my advice is for you to come to Bcn...no doubt
Its a relatively "small" city comparing to Madrid, more international and with the "bonus" of having the beach.Psytrance here is not very popular but you can still find some nice small partys around...if you need any more information just pm..

Saludos bro!!

Hola!
Personally I think Barcelona is much better, as is more cosmopolitan city, because is in the coast maybe not extreme in weather as Madrid (too cold in winter...too hot in summer), both places good for parties but Barcelona is more "underground"
If you feel better in smaller cities I can suggest Granada in the south of Spain that is a really cool place to be, plenty of young and nice people all around, many parties, close to the beach and in winter close to sky stations, really cheap place as well, and beautiful architecture...
Good luck in your choice!!

i born in madrid. i lived in barcelona also.

Bcn is more cosmopolitan, more variety, have sea and mountain, is more friendly weather....
although my recomendation is go live in outskirts of bcn, in country side....cities are overcrowded all around the world...
