If an album sounds good to you under influence, but not when sober...

if you liked it on acid and when sober you didn t, sounds weird to me but if you were on mdma or cocaine is a bit different. with these substances is much easier to feel that you enjoy the music a lot (why this happens you can see on erowid.com), and imo this happens mostly in the start when someone is not so experienced with music and drugs also.
ps. i m not telling you to "practice" , i just wanna give an answer to your question

I feel like MDMA and alcohol make music sound clearer, like I can hear through the shitty soundsystem and bad production and hear how the music is "supposed to" sound. |

I don't know man. But most of the 'psychedelic' music made much more sense and was more fun while tripping on acid, than sober. I've hardly done these substances though. I like listening to other genre's over acid music while sober.

Yep happened to me on my 1st MDMA trip. Enjoyed and danced on all kinds of music. I am much more choosier now.

edit : if it sounds shit on coke its shit , not probably shit , but pure shit .. period

for me some "psytrance" i have to be really high to enjoy it ,like all the crazy night stuff , why ?because it s not spirital at all, it s more the vibe of underground hardcore of 10 years ago,the more i m sober the more i need what i would call quality music ,intelligent one  |

Also i can say i can listen to britney spears without being drunk and enjoy it..
I also think this question is stupid, i mean on drugs im even more sensitive to "bad" music... but all and all its all about your mood.. of course nothing is the same all the time...

depends on the drug.
cocaine, heroin, ketamin, speed, ephedrine -> liking the music probably tells nothing about the music. it just sounds good on those drugs.
lsd, psylocibine, mdma, mescaline (all pure) -> probably good music
alcohole, thc -> can't tell, can be good, can be you, can be good music.
