Artist : Ido Ophir & Gabe
Title : Mastermind EP
Label : Evapour8
Format : Digital
Release date : nov. 08

Tracklist
1.Ido Ophir & Gabe – Mastermind
2. Ido Ophir & Gabe - Mastermind (Sara Galli 9th Line remix)

Evpaour8, the side-label run by Aussie Meastro Kasey Taylor, with a focus on Techno, was launched last spring with the ground-breaking release of “Shnorkel”, the infectious track that became, together with its rmx declension, the sultry hit of this summer season. One of the authors of that monster dancefloor blaster was none other than Ido Ophir, the talented producer behind the full-on project Domestic. He returns for Evapour8’s third instalment with a track co-signed by Gabe, the diminutive of Gabriel Serrasqueiro, another totemic figure of the full-on scene where he is better known as Wrecked Machine, but is not unknown to progressive listeners who will have heard of his once active Velkro project. Let’s not beat about the bush: their exhilarating tracks signed at Sprout, Noizen, Systematic etc have helped shape the current contours of the techo/progressive landscape.

1. Ido Ophir & Gabe – Mastermind
This new output features a more minimal approach than their usual stuff. It craftfully and patiently stages the entry of a lo-fi, growling bassline which undulates through a rich texture of sound covering a wide array of captivating beats such as hissing hi hat, filtered claps, and rolls which swipe across the stereo field. The break offers a short atmospheric interlude with more catchy effects. The duo has once again delivered a big slab of hot techy beat. Watch for more from these guys, indivudually or in collabs.

2. Ido Ophir & Gabe - Mastermind (Sara Galli 9th Line Remix)
Next on the roster is the rework signed by Sara Galli, the side-project of the prolific, eclectic and talented Italian producer Manuel de la Mare. He writes in all styles of electronica, from deep house to minimal. His releases have been hailed in the beatport charts, published at his own labels 303Lovers and Hotfingers and also in collaboration with some of the foremost progressive imprints (Baroque, Universal, Presslab Records, Ministry Of Sound, Anjunabeats, Warner Chapell), and have attracted the support of big name Djs such as Roger Sanchez, Funkagenda, Mark Knight, Steve Lawler, Pete Tong, Hernan Cattaneo, John Acquaviva, and Anthony Pappa... His rmx adds few extra arrangements, sticking to the techy orientation of the original. It sprinkles some drippling and rattling percussive treatment, thereby endowing the track with a more tech-house perspective. If it doesn’t reach the level of virtuosity of the original, it nonetheless injects extra rhythmic drive, and has a more pronounced dancefloor focus.

Bottom line
This is another exciting release, and a solid follow-up in the inaugural Evapour8 style, which will successfully flavour a techno-oriented set. Both tracks are highly recommendable. To be missed at your peril!

I never liked the Domestic stuff, but this style I love!
Mastermind is not even close to Warehouse, his and Velcro's remix of Keep On and Shnorkel (Jamie Steven's Tech Dub mix is the one for me), but its nice.

eighth !

But I didn't like this tune....

Far better from Gabe is his remix of Sasha's Coma with Dimitri Nakov, and the No Chaos, No Pain tune with VOR Dnox and Beckers on the new Audio Therapy comps !

Trance producers doing techno is injecting some much needed new energy for me....

at the Minimal-Prog-Electro interface.....
