if the right atmosphere is created you can play anything really, from nirvana to prodigy to son kite to wizzy noise... sometimes the unexpected can be more psychedelic then what you're already used to hear 100 times every party.

we is,excuse the bad english,all those people who have been to weddings or birthdays or wakes ect,maybe when you were younger,where you had a disco turn up,sometimes known as a eg"bobs mobile disco"and play an assortment of tunes which conjur moments where most people end up dancing with their parents whilst being videod by their grannies or another family member.(maybe a uk thing but you are from the uk arent you glen.vor isnt i know but he needs to be filled in with this info for sure!)
now this is all well and good,and a great place to mix nivarna into prodigy into ya house into your electro...
but i think you should do as buju says at the dream temple...KEEP IT PSYCHEDELIC PROGRESSIVE TRANCE and if i can add,leave your house and your electro in ya garage..
or go to mr c's or fabric,they love a bit of that.
anyway,have fun
please note i am not using the word disco in respect to those 70's funksters with their flares and glitter balls.They would never have let nivarna play,and please excuse me if i have offended people within this retro scene...no offence meant. |

OK, I get you now! It was a bit early in the morning though.
I think I will mainly play stuff that fits the term 'PSYCHEDELIC PROGRESSIVE TRANCE', but I also know that a lot of house can also fit a progressive set. Trance is a state of mind and the music is just something that can induce that. I like to blur the lines between trance and house and I'm sure anyone who has heard me play wouldn't say I've played a house set, but a prog trance set... but I would have sneaked in maybe 30% of tracks from a house label, yet it fits and nobody seems to care. In fact it gets a great reaction.
At the end of the day... I don't like to pidgeon hole music, good music is good music! I try my best to play high quality DANCE music that helps induce trance what ever label or scene it comes from!

I agree with u, Glen... good music is good music and trance is a state of mind! By the way, I've been to some festivals in germany this summer and I heard so much electro house, tech house, progressive house and so on and all the dreadlock freaks having it much more then when someone was playing some gms or any full on stuff...
I play and produce psychedelic trance, but I have my mind open for other sorts of dance music. The so called psychedelic trance has a huge influence of other styles these days, both full on and progressive... or you still believe that its astral projection that is influencing people these days?? And I think its always nice to listen/dance to something that is good and creative and well produced, something that, I'm sorry to say, but 80% of the psytrance music I hear in parties today is not included. Psy DMT is a small place, family gathering kinda vibe... I think these are the right places to play something different, unusual, rather then on a big commercial event... the more friendly atmosphere makes u feel comfortable to play what u want... I helped to organize some parties at the dmt and played in another couple and most of the times I've finished my set with progressive house or electro house or whatever (even if I had started full on) and everytime people was dancing and having a wicked time...
this thread turned into something really strange... this so called open minded psychedelic trance people should be more relaxed... its simple, if u dont like progressive or something u believe its not psychedelic just dont go to the party, mate, there are other 10 squat parties and couple of clubs happening on the same weekend, as it usually happens in london, playing all sorts of psychedelic music, from skazi to penta to sesto sento.... those who want to listen to something different, very well produced, really nice to dance to, yet psychedelic on its own way, then come psy dmt... u might end up enjoying it and having a good time...

Well put Marcello! Nice one!
Psy Dmt is a great place to play a mix of stuff, I've enjoyed playing there and I often have lowered the BPM to 128-134, somthing that would be harder to do at a larger event, well in London anyhow.
I assure people that come the music will be high quality dance trance house and great fun.

If only we the scene here was a bit more open minded then things would be better IMO but slowly slowly we are getting there...

Many artists, labels, home listeners, party goers, etc will agree on you on that and I'm one of them 4 sure !
So much CRAP coming out today and many people ( yes I'm generelising now ) think that by having a pc and some plugins they can produce music and become famous ( in our little lovely scene ) this is why a lot of music & labels look the way they do

Yes Psy Dmt is lovely and I really recomed checking it out Friendly vibes, good music and always good looking chicks wiggling their bottys ! Especialy when it's a progressive night ( Thats a fact )

I think I'll be there, I don't see a reason why I shouldn't.
Indeed playing in the psydmt it's a lovely experience!!!
The vibe of the crew and the crowd is always very easygoing and gives you a lot of "space" to play something a little bit more unusual.
They're always getting into the music...paying attention, I never get such a good feedback in the U.K. like when I played in the psydmt.
