I dont think it will be so much of a difference to justify the price the i5 is a capable procesor, and if you can invest the difference in other equipment better save it.

yeah I'd go ASUS i5. Spent $800 on mine around christmas time and it's been rock solid stable, never crashed at a gig and it's my sole production computer as well...and I throw a lot of shit at it and it performs beautifully.

Nothing wrong with toshibas, but my experience with asus has been quite good, and well they make the hardware too (mobos and video cards)

Yep, Intel release procesors every 6 to 8 months.

went with the Asus 2630qm... got it price matched down to $900... I liked the idea of the Acer, but I heard of heating issues with it and since the Asus had no issues, is a more reliable brand, and comes with a stellar warranty on it's own, I figured I'd be better off splurging the extra $200 on all those things rather than settle for the Acer which although cheaper, not as good a deal in the long run...
  mmmmmm... ambient
