Oh, I remember this well.

The first thing it was for me was to learn what sounded good and what not in my daw.

The second thing was to realize how to make it sound good. A tip I came across was " when you use sounds that sound good, your mix will sound better" . This very obvious statement made me realize a lot of sounds in my mixes didn't sound all that good. It changed a lot for me.

Last it took me ages to get to a point where I started liking what came out of my daw. Was it worth it to keep dabbling around all these years? To me it definitely was, and if you keep persisting, there will come the day where you go "what the fuck! This sounds amazing... And from my daw??? Indeed ! From my daw, through me, wow."

And this feeling is what made it all worth it and so much more . So continue on your path if you love to make music, try to make everything as good as you can, actually better than you can... And one day the reward will be sitting there, right in front of you, and you will scratch your head, wondering how it got there. ...

a friend made 300 or 400 tracks before releasing is first album, was worth the wait if i remember he sold around 25 000 copies and played it all around the globe.
that look like a lot of tune but that probably represent few years of making music, somone with 5 years of experience could make that amount of tune during that time

sometimes we think we make shit but in fact it can be quiet good it can take time to realize it, listeing some old tunes after months or years ,the one you think where shit can turn out great and the oposite happen too.

one thing to not do imo is work hard thinking you will make a hit..juste make tunes and follow the inspiration in a good day it can turn in a good one , in a bad day in a crap one.. that all that gonna hapen

the hard thing with producing good electronic music is that one has to be an expert in so many different things at the same time, that it's nearly impossible to be very good in all of them.

even learning to understand and use a daw/sequencer would already stop most people.
then synths, fx, sampling, synthesis of the own sounds, eq, compressor, pan, reverb, mix, mastering.. to cover the technical necessary.
all together nearly too much to get handled by one person alone.

and just then comes the really interesting part of creating dance music:
grooving kb combo and rythm, harmony, intro, pads and atmospheres, main part, great lead melo, break, fills, variation, story telling, tension and release, whatever....

and it's just not enough when a beginner finally has understood so many things and achieved to produce something that could be possibly identified as a nice psy kb combo. that's not enough, it is the start of the beginning.
even if one has learned and understood half of the steps above, what is already really hard to achieve, he will still be very far from making a great track that sounds pro and will be played out.

so starting from scratch without prior experience in some aspects of the process will for sure take a couple of years. (as it is with most activities one wants to excel in.)

:\ Maybe I should let it go for a few days or weeks, or months or years!

Just forget all about music, until I really want to listen to music.

All I am actually doing right now is forcing myself to like my shitty tunes (lol) and not actually feeling it like someone mentioned.

Thanks for the support gentlemen every post inspires me to keep going.

What is a shity tones ? For one is good for one is bad , Theres the quality side and the 'Idea's' side , About quality thats true can take an years (But hey .. How did you get there if your not siting on the daw 10 hours aday ? This is not come alone with an magic stick) For the rets (When imo less important , Sure in the end all must be one ) The mello , The story and those .

You should listen to your soul and not to your mind , Good music coming from inside .

Dont worry it will back .. Take the time (I didnt produce 2 and a half years when i was prisoner , Its was realy hard this time for me cause i could't realy express my self - Even to me .. So that a bad situation and you cant be you) But you a free person .. 1 , 2 , 3 weeks .. You know .. In life , Dont have be so dramatic , If you dont have the mood go play tennis or so .

Yesterday i buy me a new dog .. Sweet labrador 2 month old , You think is eazy ? , I sleep this night maybe 2 hours , Every second i have clean after him , So this is hard sure but in few month's will be good (Better) , Same with ideas , Quality and so , With the time come the experience , Sure some time ppls have alot what to say (Usualy happend when start produce) That virginal music is the best .. No debate but theres the bad sound inside too .. Theres no any 'Abrakadabra' word but siting on your butt and work ..

Great weekend & Happy new year ! .

Hey guys as I promised, here I am back with some good news. Well I definitely had to wipe out the whole last project lol

IT WAS A MESS. First of all a lot of shit was out of tune, imagine this, shit sounded shitty. And I kept listening and listening to it. So it just exhausted me.

I took some LSD last night and experimenting with sounds and stuff. Basically I realized trance riffs really do it for me especially in this state.

So today with so much hope I started something new. Now this time (no lie) its going pretty well.

Now what do you suggest boys? Should I let it rest a couple days until I'm in the mood again?

a couple more day ? no way at least not for me it dont work like this, when the energy/inspiration is there you have to use it as it may not come back till ..

imo rework on the track while you re in a good state/feel for it if it dont work maybe start a new one, you can work on many projects at same time and just jump from on to a other when you get tired/feel you re not really improving the project it can work well too.

that the reason for me track should be made fast.. as when you have load of creative energy like after a good party, you need to use it fast cause it s there just for few days. it give the best tunes, imo with the best flow for the dancefloor, you feel everyhting perfectly, the progression of the track is like writen on a book in front of you then when it s gone, it s too late as you wont feel things the same ,till you re back in that state

That's some good advice PoM Do you suggest finishing a track first (composition wise) and paying attention to EQ and proper mixing once you've finished?

for someone that have trouble finishing tunes definetly ! and with time the production get better anyway.

but it s good to start a tune with a beat and bassline that sound 90 % there ,you can make this a other day when there is no inspiration, or use a base from a previous tune.. that way you can t use shit sounding sounds as it would sound horrible in contrast to the good sounding beat.it keep the tune with a good potential production wise.
if you start with a shit sounding base it s too hard to get decent sound in the end , or you have a lot of work..
but yes for me the less i care about production the more i can concentrate on the music part.
often the best produced music is often boring too imo, not all offcourse but when there is too much care about productrion the music can suffer

Yeah I know what you mean. At the moment i've pretty much figured out what "my personal kick and bass sounds like" and it sounds pretty good but I always pay so much attention to EQ and proper mixing that I never get to finishing a track ><
