and in the original spirit of the thread...

"Mantaray - Numinous Island"
http://www.discogs.com/release/105367

I've always wondered why this didn't get much attention. it ranks right up there with woob1194 imo.

before "radio babylon" there was nothing like that...nothing...it may sound just like a funkydrum to you....but it did kickoff a lot of the stuff you dancing now.
(chemical bros and prodigy and tipper and many more coming out of that root).
great remix from andy wheatherall (2 lone swordsmen)...who did a great remix of papua too....probably he did the drumbeat of both....anyway...

my reminder is:

Holger Czukay: Canaxis - 1969
probably one of the first albums done using samples...tape loops.

Did you see that short movie?
It actually plays the original record on it and the famous breakbeat section that later got sampled buy many. That "funkdrum" as you call it is the mother of every broken beat used in electronic music. If MBM didn't use it directly they took it from someone who did from the original "Amen Break" record, so to say that FSOL "stole" it from MBM is the same as saying MBM "stole" it from Amen Break. The original source of both broken beats is the same.

And the "original" Amen Break was stolen from The Winstons, a soul band from the 60's

I think you got it confused a bit. When I said the "original" Amen Break I was referring to The Winstons so it's the same record we are taking about here. I referenced The Winstons on the first page of the thread.

i would like to use this moment to present to you some old school russian ambient, Eduard Artemyev

here's a track from Stalker, movie by Andrei Tarkovsky, dates back 1979.

here's wiki article 'bout one of instruments he used to play with : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANS_synthesizer

this guy done some really inovative things in electronic music back then.

and since someone already beat me to Children Of The Bong, i would like to mention http://www.discogs.com/artist/Ultramarine
