As Shrom said read all the threads in this forum relating to producing music... after that get a sequencer that supports vst's (I would advise fruity loops, to start with) after that get some vst's, effects and start messing around with it.

Not wanting to put you off, but it is very hard, loads of hard work and understanding... just keep the interest
good luck

The internet will provide you with lots of info...
this board will also...
how fast did u have in mind? when is the deadline?
things will have its time... you can count on it, dosent matter which end you start in.... for example: the understanding of all parameters on synths. wow..
but be positive and dont give up...
some more advice: first things first, learn the environment you are going to work in, be sure to check demos of different host´s i.e Cubase, Logic, Samplitude, Cakewalk. And these software studios Frutiyloops, Reason, Orion... check http://www.kvr-vst.com for more host´s
find one that suits you, they all have different approaches... it´s for you to find out which will fill your needs and which one that you can come around easy and still have that creativity in mind..
if you want it fast... go to your library and borrow some books on computer music and other stuff related to music.. or print some guids on the net,
you need to know some music terms to get your head around all the stuff, so check this out
http://www.audioc.com/information/audio_glossary/glossary.html
now this Faq´s and info have taken me along time to gather but i give them to you for free
and if u want some chords to learn.. dig this:
http://www.angelfire.com/country/nutchords/guide/index.html
when you get your head around, start looking for some precussion kits, you will deffo need them!
and the world of Vsti´s is big, also check http://www.kvr-vst.com for some freebees.. i would recommend Synth1, Crystal, Cosmogirl, Invader, ahh shit there are so many check for your self... =)
good luck to ya and start working =D
and remember to have fun, learn by doing...
