Hi everybody! Im starting to "produce" darkpsy (at least i would like to) and as far as i know a track of any genre have many parts to be composed. Im talking about leads, pads, bassline, etc. Could anyone tell me something about this topic? And what do i basically need to know to be ready to produce this kind of music? Thank you for the help and answers! |

its all up to you really, sometimes simple is better, sometimes not so much. the options are limitless honestly and thats what makes all music so unique! start with one and try layering synths etc... most of all practice!!!

I would recommend to start reading all those topics here in isratrance. There are 'mother of' threads with loads of information about the things you are looking for. The more effort and time you put in, the better you will sound.

I have been experimenting lately some darkpsy. My advice is simple: Listen to good dark stuff and pay attention to breaks and compositions. Lots of the energy that pushes you, comes from standard Kbbb and punchy precussions.
When you have low frequencies in shape, it's easier to work with leads and soundscapes.

^^ That ^^ and all the silence in between the notes ->very important and usually underrated.

I'm trying to figure out myself hehe
Anyway i think the most important is to have a powerfull story going.
For me its all about the leads fade ins, question and answer with lots of variety of cool synthesized sounds and there modulations and automations. Mostly it is known that the bass is the main part but i have to differ its the beat; the sync between all the parts.
And what you need to know is everything same as the rest of the genres: music theory, synthesis and mixing.
But you know how to make a rock ballad you just need to play guitar and sing.
