hey, do you think that i absolutely need to analyze my room with a test tone and a mike?
or just go trough a calculation based on the physical dimentions of the room?

You almost had me confused

@tribalizer
testing tones are allways neat, it takes some practice and experience though - but that you should do after you have some treatment allready. Bare walls are going to create alot of mess for you...
Room dimensions can tell you about your room nodes - resonance - although everything depends on the shape of your room.
Just start basic, I suppose you can't really do anything worse than what it is now.

hi
i need some recomendations
my studio has a really low roof similar to this

***********+***********
********+*****+********
******+*********+******
***+***8*******8***+***
|*********************|*
|*********************|*

ignore the *s... it was hard to make this drawing here
+/| are the walls, the 8s are my speacks
it's a squared room with the inverted V top the 8s are my speacks on the stands ;D
uppoints: i can monitor very loud and wont hear any noises or any complains for neighbours
downpoints: bad stereo image (i began to love hearing in mono) and some bass freqs are enphasyed
i guess i've to pad between the speakers (for better stereo image) behing my hearing position and the roof nearer to the speackers
any sugestions?
 roll a joint or STFU :) |

sheesh, tricky one...
maybe, if possible, placing everything the other way around, 90 degrees...
to get to face one of the slopes...
and then put acoustic treatment behind your monitors...on the slope and on the wall...thats what ive seen of photos of studios in rooftops like yours... |

hmmm, i thought about rotating everything 90º
but then i would get bigger reflections coming from behind of my listening position... i think

Cheap and easy way to fix a room:
* Take a number of large woolen blankets
* (Optional) Tie-dye blankets
* Suspend blankets a couple of centimeters from the wall

Do you have a link to this article? Got plenty of spare duvets lying around! I have a problem with lots of sound going into my neighbour's room..So i can't really montior at optimum levels..Will hanging duvets help minimise the sound going into the other room?

yes, duvets are really good, but they don't look good hanging on the wall... A lot of people use duvets to build a vocal booth and it works very well. never heard of people using it for the studio itself though... But i think it's usable, it's just so ugly that nobody wants to use it
Very heavy cloths help too, that's what they use in theaters and opera-houses, to keep sound from reflecting behind the stage. You have to suspend them at least 15-20 cm's from the wall, and they have to be really heavy!!
btw: thanks for the great tips!! Very good thread!! |

check this link: http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html
did all my acoustic treament based on his genious informations.
Rockwool-Panels on the walls and triangular Rockwool-Basstraps in the back-corners. Don't hesitate to put also a panel to the ceiling.
I was really impressed by the results and would never buy any expensive crap therefore.... |
