Get some recording gear and start listening to your surroundings, there is a multitude of crazy good sounds out there. Record them! Later on you can still manipulate the recordings with synths, samplers and your daw per se!
Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

there is a new toy outhere...
is named cyclop its a plugin from sugar bytes
i have played with it during a bit, and it was enough to understand that it may be something very cool for finding original and unheard synth sounds
but that also it depends on the guy who modelates the synthesizers, if depends on what are you after, most of people try to follow stereotypes this days, its very dificult to chose your own path and go there with confidence...
i recomend you to play with the plugins a whole day,... dont make projects, just grab some synths, and plugins, conect the plugins into your midi keyboard controler and start messing with... then if you modelate or find anything special, patch it...
build your own database... thats how the grown musitians do!

BTW, love your psytrance stuff, using it for inspiration for my own music.

tbh,,,i wou;ld start looking towards Arturia as bizare it sounds,
the dude that they worked on the Mini brute with is supposed to be some bio molecular scientist or something
who has been building his own modular system as a hobby for over 40 years after building the synthacon
so if your looking for new types of synthesis
nothing bodes better for a new and unusaual synthesis than a boffin who locks himself away for a few decades

+1 on field recordings
nice cheap portable recorder is the zoom H2N - it has five capsules! you can record XY, Mid-Side or 2-4 channel surround.

For unique sounds and sample manipulation you can't go past the Vsynth.
I personally prefer a hands on approach and from what i have experienced i don't think any vst comes close to the effects and tweakable options and parameters this thing has i have owned one for about 11+ months and have not even scratched the surface of what it's capable of.
It's real time filter/morphing ability is top notch and piss easy to get something usable in minutes, i love being able to control the sounds with touchscreen controls it really gives a unique way of working.
cheers for that mate, now i have serious G.A.S.
