Is really liberating! No pressure, no expectations, nothing. just a song.
You don't even to make it especially bad. a little bad is already ok.
Try it. I'm serious.

This seems like a very good tip!
Means I only have to finish one of my existing projects
Besides I must say I really appreciate all of your support.
I now see there are a lots things I can do, which will help me.
Already I think I've managed to see things more clearly. |

Im on a break from making music out of inconvenience. i.e. my screen has broken and I'm too poor to afford a new one at the moment. That was about three months ago. I play my guitar more and realise what a melody sounds like. But I'm at a stage now where I'm not going to get into it again because it's what I have been doing. I'm waiting for the time to be right and get that feeling again which made me think I should be making music in the first place. That inspiration's good for at least 3 years out of experience. |

It's a good thing you don't have any inspiration... it means you have the soul of an artist (as opposed to just a technician) and can't write music if you don't have anything to say. Many people seem to churn out track after track, but all too often the it sounds to me like they're just exploring the technology, rather than using it to write the music that's in their head and their heart.
Embrace your fear of not being able to write... take some of the advice given here and leave it alone for a while, have some life experiences, do stuff you've always wanted to do. Eventually you will find the music comes back - and if it doesn't, well, better to have had the experience, enjoyed it, done good work and been honest about its ending, than to try and flog a dead horse. In my humble opinion.

+1 Very wise words
Glad to see someone not churning out FX tracks and actually trying to tell a story with music, which requires inspiration..
My advice, read a good book and listen to different types of music Cheers
I don't use ideas. Every time I have an idea it's too limiting, and usually turns out to be a disappointment. But I haven't run out of curiosity. -RR |

firstly - don't stress yourself - it will just make it worse!!
relax - meditate if you like!!
you have to remain calm and collected to think straight!!
like alot of peeps here have said - what u r experiencing is very normal and happens to the best of 'em!!
my 0.26309 cents ----- do a cover of your favourite track from your favourite artist!! lay down their skeleton and put in your flesh and organs and make a new living being!!!
good luck!!

Or maybe just someone who finds its easy to identify channel content by it's color.
Sorry to hijack the thread but i find coloring channels something very useful and sometimes inspiring.
It is just as respectable if you preffer plain gray channels... i just don't see the childish part of organizing by colors so it is yellow when that part aint ready yet for example, or use certain blue for pads and red for leads.
just had to say |

Hey, I've been in your position many times. Making music can be the most frustrating thing in the world if you approach it the wrong way.
The first thing to do is abandon all hope you're going to make it with music. You will not be the next rock-star-dj, you will not be the next Hallucinogen or Infected Mushroom. I know this with the same amount of certainty that I have that I will not die in a plane crash or get struck by lightning etc... There's thousands of people trying to make it through music, many of those exceedingly talented, so the odds are very very bad. If it does happen, it will be despite and not thanks to attempts to make music in order to prove something to yourself and others.
The funny thing is, once you drop all your ambitions with music, you will find that you are free to experiment since if you do stick to it, the only reason you're doing it is for the music itself and you only make music when you find yourself inspired to do so.
This thing cannot be forced.
A more practical tip is to invest in a hardsynth or a groovebox. When you don't have to bother with a DAW and going through your mouse/keyboard, you will find it's much easier to get inspired and you'll be able to focus on the sounds your working on. Having a keyboard or a full-fledged musical instrument is a must for extracting the melodies in your head.
But again if you're buying equipment in the hopes that somehow it will help you achieve the "pro" status and musical success, the best is to just give up the whole venture for a while and take a break.
All the best!
Row row row your boats gently down the stream; merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream. |
