I've just finished a new track, one of the best things in it was the sample, the track is still good, but the sample begins and ends the song perfectly. Today I just received a new compilation cd in the mail and discover someone has done exactly the same thing as me!
I don't want to be labeled an idea thief, the songs are totally different style BUT I can't believe someone arrived at the same musical solution (and did it first).
Should I delete it and look for something else (it'll never work the same) or just leave it and chalk it up to one of those things? I feel an obligation to get rid of it now I know someone else has used it. I've heard loads of tracks in my time with the same samples in but I wonder if they knew before it was release it had already been done.
No name dropping, so don't ask. |

I personally enjoy it... when I see a situation like this its good becoz you can truly hear the difference between two artists... two different interpretations of the same "theme" u know what I mean?
if u feel confident about the tune.. bring it on! |

I agree don't ditch it, it's obviously a good idea if someone else thought of it too. It's that interconnectedness of humans that we grow and evolve as one even if we can't see it...
Keep it

Keep it, specially if your track has the same production level and is at least as good as the other one in your opinion. Otherwise remix it, and make it better.

i recently remixed a friend's song, and it had a certain sample in it. that same week i sent one of my own tracks to another friend to be remixed, and upon recieving it back, the remixer used the same sample the other track i was remixing had in it.
a bit akward feeling at first, but no one copied anyone, so its all good...
as long as its not concious and deliberate copying then don't worry about it.

Thanks for the positive comments
I still feel a bit weird about it though. No doubt people who hear both will compare. Not that I've even approached a label about release yet!

do it on wednsday when the weekend newspaper is ready but not out there....
they take 2 groups of 120 pplz each
lock them both in diffrent rooms
give to one of the groups to solve the crossword puzzle on tuesday and the other in sunday (after the hole country did it).
apear that the second group done heaps better.

Don't change a thing, even if it was done before you (which is not) you did it on your own without copying, why should you delete your work. no way !!
