Nice long samples for each album to get a feel for the disk, and great people to deal with. |

Walter Ego - "Dubstuff" and "Purple Pygmies"
They are both off of the compilation: "Eclipse- Journey of Permanence and Impermanence" which is awesome!
The cd is old, it came out in 1998 by Twisted Records, but it's worth a peek, I promise.

Let's see then. I'd recommend
Bluetech - Elementary Particles / Prima Materia
Various - Natural Born Chillers
Shulman - In Search Of A Meaningful Moment
Midnight Soul Dive
From Aleph Zero. Deep sounds. The bluetech album has fantastic soundscapes and Natural Born Chillers will sit well with non psy friends too. Midnight Soul Dive has some nice lounge beats leading into very chilled ambient
From Dakini Records I would say get the Sky Dancing series
Various - Sky Dancing: Nada Masala Vol. 1
Various - Sky Dancing: Nada Masala Vol. 2
Various - Sky Dancing: Nada Masala Vol. 3
also Makyo - Yakshini, Shringara, Vismaya & most recently Swara Mandala
and Adham Shaikh - Fusion and Puff Dragon - Sazanami which is my personal favourite.
These are all quite ethnic but it sounds like real ethnic not the pretentious ethnic crap you often hear in chillout these days.
Check out Androcell's albums Emotivision & Efflorescence for nice clean dubby sounds.
There are lots of albums on Liquid Sound Design which have beautiful psychadelic dub. The best ones are
Celtic Cross - Hicksville
Dub Trees - Nature Never Did Betray The Heart That Loved Her
Various - Butterfly Dawn
Various - A New Chapter In Dub Vol. 2 (The Secret Language Of Ordinary Objects)
Tripswitch - Circuit Breaker
Abakus - That Much Closer To The Sun
these are all albums I just listen to again & again. Fantastic sounds suits every mood I get into.
The new The Orb album The Dream has Liquid Sounds symbol on the back & could easily fit into their catalog.
For music that is closer to real ambient try Ultimae records. Highlights include
The Fahrenheit Project series one, two, three, four & five. Part 6
Solar Fields' albums are amazing too. Very soft & trippy, spacey feelings.
Reflective Frequencies
Blue Moon Station
Extended
Leaving Home
Carbon Based Lifeforms - Hydroponic Garden
Carbon Based Lifeforms - World of Sleepers
Sync24 - Source
H.U.V.A. Network - Distances
Various - Albedo
Various - Oxycanta & Oxycanta : Winter Blooms
Asura - Code Eternity
Asura - Life2
are other highlights from Ultimae. It's a great label, easily my favourite at the moment.
If you want more varied upbeat chill then look at Twisted's sister label Backroom beats
Backroom Beats 1 & Backroom Beats 2 are very varied & interesting in style.
Hi-Fi Companions - Swingers In Paradise is very jazzy. VERY jazzy. It includes a track called Skyclad which I highly recommend, it sounds beautiful & melodious.
also try Flexitones - Joyrider for beats. It's a very cool album & another one that has been well recieved by non-psy folk.
These are the best labels I know for chill music but also check out
for ethnic
Asura - Lost Eden
Angel Tears - Way of the Mystic
Angel Tears - The Dreaming
Gaudi - Bass, Sweat & Tears
Entheogenic - Entheogenic
Entheogenic - Spontaneous Illumination
Shulman - Endless Rhythms Of The Beatless Heart
For melancholic chill try
M-Sphere - Electronic Relaxation
Amethystium - Odonata
Amethystium - Aphelion
Amethystium - Evermind
Synaesthesia - Ephemeral
Synaesthesia - Desideratum
Synaesthesia - Embody
on the IDM side go for
Kettel - My Dogan
& Secede - Tryshasla which both have beautiful melodies & cool beats.
Finally you can't go wrong with the chill out CD on Total Eclipse - Violent Relaxation which sounds just like total eclipse's early work in downtempo form.
& Union Jack - There Will Be No Armageddon has some trance tracks on it but also some magical chill.
I also recently got into a label called Databloem Whci is a really experimental ambient label, I didn't get into the music at first but after some relaxed times I fell in love with it!
After being recommended I went out and bought collection One, Two and Three. At first I was a little disappointed. I put them on & started doing something else & I didn't really listen to them & they came across as boring! How stupid I was, the next few weeks I didn't listen again but I thought I would give it another try as all my best music didn't sound brilliant straight away, or did but got even better! Listening to them through headphones with no distractions was an utter joy! Really really good stuff on all 3 CDs. Very deep trippy odd chillout!
On the back of this new discovery I wanted more so I ordered Saul Stokes - Radiate which is pretty good but really needs the right mood to enjoy, The Circular Ruins - The Alchemy Concert a live radio concert which great relaxed atmospheres & Spielerei - Publix more solid stuff!
My obsession was underway
Noticing they have some Japanese artists (or at least based in Japan) on their books I ordered Waki - Music For Waki People some weird minimalist techno ambient weirdo! That was top & has stayed high on my pile of messed up CDs! Today in the post I recieved Mutagene - Sleeping Possession an much more upbeat dubby style of album & really really good! I think Mutagene is Canadian living in Japan (based on the blurb inside the cover).
I also received Off The Sky - Gently Down The Stream because I like the Name & title more than anything else it wasn't wasn't I expected but still good good good.
Off the Sky - The Geist Cycles sums up the weirdness of the label. Not for everyone.
I really liked Spierelei & Matacoup - Wichman & Other Pieces
The Circular Ruins - Realm of Possibility, Empathy Test & The Alchemy Concert
Recently I have been enjoying Cymphonic - Strataradialis & Mathias Grassow & Thomas Weiss - Insights which are both very nice ambient journeys the latter being released on the sublabel Practising Nature.
Of course there is the real ambient. Natural & spacey goodness (also check some databloem albums for real space ambient, collection 1 : opening, being the best)
You must know Ishq right? His album Orchid on Dakini Records (2CD and 1CD on Interchill) which is very nice natural ambient as is his virtual album Infinite Garden under the alias Elve. His other virtual album Magik Square of the Sun under the alias Ishvara is just as good but moodier and spacier! Matt Hillier (Ishq) also did an album with Matt Coldrick of Green Nuns fame called Elemental Journey - Absolute Ambient.com Volume 2 which is not completely beatless but has the same natural feel and is beatless for long periods.
Fax 49-69/450464 is a label with many fantastic releases on it but unfortunately the output of the label is incredibly high & they do not manage to keep up the quality with every release. My favourites, from what I've heard are Tetsu Inoue - Ambiant Otaku, Dreamfish - Dreamfish, Pete Namlook - The 4 Seasons, Pete Namlook, Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter.
Finally,I have recently gotten into dark ambient, but if you don't like the really beatless stuff I fear you may not like Robert Rich & B. Lustmord - Stalker or David Bickley & Tom Green - Erebus & Terror but for more beaty dark ambient try Spielerei & Mantacoup - Cold War Wait.....What? |

It's time to move on to the next step in the psychedelic revolution. We've reached a certain point, but we're not moving any more.
