if you can be more specific i'm sure i can help.
you can simply use it as a removable drive for all kind of storage. just drag&drop (assuming the ipod is formatted in a filesystem your computer can read/write to)
to add tracks to it's playlist you need to use the software apple provides (itunes for macos and some other program for windows). If you fail to use such a program the tracks won't appear in the playlists.
