what version u have?
the basic elements r: cubase is a sequencer meaning u write with it and the softwar is telling the synths that r connected to it to play whats written
u edit midi on midi chanels.
u can also edit audio files with it (wavs) and u do it on vst channels.

how far did u get to?

Audio (samples): open: Audio > pool
do: file > Import audio
then drag and drop the file to the score.
make sure the wav is 16 bit. if not then resample.
what else?

Heres some sample sites but try to get your hands on some sample cd`s...
Samplecity.net
Samplenet.co.uk
BTW: Try creating your own samples with softs as Rebirth and then play with them with multi-effects such as Soundforge....Its all more authentic...

with stomper u can make really cool and strange sound FX too. very easily. but thats not a VST Instrument which is a virtual synth, a plugin for the Cubase. again - whats the Cubase verion u have? some of them come with some instruments installed.

AHEM!!!!

You mess with Stomper you mess with me!!

Stomper is one kick ass program! If all you can do are kick drums, then you don't know how to use it!
Go learn how to use the filters and modulation and everything in there.
Then process the result in Sound Forge or something, then you get absolutly amazing sounds.

Michael...
After reading your post regarding Stomper I dcided to mess arround with it for a while and ... my opinion stands...
I meen, I imported some of my own wave files and tryed to alter them here and got to the conclusion that Soundforge 4.5 does it much better (with the sonic foundry plug-ins) and in a much shorter time...
Why do you insist that Stomper is so good.
Enlighten me....Please!

Because it's easier to use.
In Sound Forge or something (I use 4.5) you have too many parameters...
And trying to make a simple kick drum involves in creating a sine wave, then doing pitch bends and a lot of trial and error on it.
And where's the modulation and filters? It's much more complicated... Try making a filter sweep with resonance and cutoff and everything, and modulated by something that is modulated too. Very hard to do in Sound Forge. Now go ahead and do it in Stomper, 5 minutes max.

In Stomper you got it all on one screen, very simple to use.
