I'm trying to finish my first real tune, and as far as i've come, i'm not merely satisfied with the result. Therefore i would really like to get some creative, and specific as well, feedback. I know there are some parts which sound a bit empty because i have an idea for what's going to be there, i just haven't managed to put the ideas to life.
I build all my sounds from scratch and avoid using presets, but it ends being that i don't think the sounds are psychedelic enough, and maybe not clear/crisp enough. I also think the arrangement is to predictable (the tune's intension was to be a full-on, but it merged into something.. don't know what). That being said; i don't know what i can do to make the arrangement more undpredictable so feedback accepted with gratification.
The platform used is Ableton Live with Reason for some percussion. Everything is still in midi. I have read about wave-chopping, but i'm not sure where in the process this should/can be done, and how i should do it in Live? Should I bounce separate tracks and chop from there, or should i bounce different sends (K&B, leads, pads etc.) and take it from there?
thanks in advance!

I think it's very good for first tracks. the sound is good. but it's not fullon. it's dark! and the sounds are psychedelic enough.
i looked at your track with paz analyzer of waves and i can tell you miss high frquencies. and you have too much sub. also you are out of phase a lot of times.
i think you need to stick more to some story with your music. you have too much hard changes for fullon. i don't know which fullon do you want to make but fullon have some melody's most of the time and also the bassline is becoming more groovy (high octave notes). and also in fullon the bassline changing its notes with the progress of the track. |

i like it!
It have a involving environment!!
A good combination of sounds!
In my opinion u could have a part with a bass variation more defined and also a lead follow it or/and discrete melody
it's my ideas, im not a really expert on it! |

In reply to the Full-on part.. I listen to dark psy most of the time, and my intension with the song was to make a full-on track, but then it just ended up as dark like all the other projects i have started but never finished=P
What should i do about the high frequencies? EQ? I'm a bit afraid to make the sound shrill by boosting high frequencies on EQ. And what about the sub? EQ away some bottom? Which frequency area? And what about the phase issues? |

The last post was stupid.. I've boosted in the high frequency area and cut a bit in the very bottom and it sounds much better, thanks for the tips..
But the phase is still a problem.. it's the stereo delays ruining everything! what should i do? |

it's not the stereo delay. most of the chance is that you have sounds that are too much stereo (very possible pads), or sounds that going from side to side. there are plugins like waves s1 that control the stereo width. you should make it smaller. with analyzers like paz analyzer of waves you can see if sounds are out of phase. also with analyzer you can see your frequency spectrom and which frequency you need to treat.
check few professionals tracks at the analyzer and see how the spectrom should looks like. |
