After spending hours and hours trying to get a flute sound using FM with white noise on the attack at just the right filter setting, I said fuck it and bought a cheap bamboo flute for next to nothing that sounds 20 times as good as anything I'll ever synthesize. It's pretty easy to get a basic grasp of the instrument too, and if you can't be arsed with that you can sample it. But if you truly like the sound of the flute you may find yourself getting into it a little deeper.

My man.. I also have three flutes at home, one small from calcutta, one middle bengali flute and one large bansouri so thats really enough.. Like u said, they can be sampled and if u want some unnatural variations u could re synthesize it..           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills

Reminds me when i was looking for native american voices and couldnt find any to my liking, i started singing and sampled myself, it made it to the track           V/A Floating Mirror - OUT NOW - with Celles, Midimal, Electrypnose, Melodix, Troll Scientists, Yab Yum, Gaspard, Ajja, Cradle of Beats! if you want good quality recordings ....you need good acoustics in your room....good soundcard and mic.
