I am wondering what everyone else is using...
I'm really just at a loss about what where to begin, and would really appreciate some help..
I plan to pay a visit a computer music store near my place soon, but I wanna go there with some idea, so any help would be awesome, and much appreciated.
cheers,
Claude
p.s. I am open to mac and pc options |

Hey, I'm in the same boat... looking for a stable laptop for production and live use. I notice that Toshibas are recommended quite a bit but I havnt heard anything bad about Acer either.
The acer travelmate core 2 duo /2GHz/17 inch is going for about 2 grand here in oz which is quite a bit cheaper than the equivalent Toshiba model... about $800 less I think.

I have a 3.0Ghz HT CPU - 800FSB
2GB DDR400 Ram (2 x 1GB)
80Gb HHD
DVD-Burner
128MB Offboard ATI Graphics Card.
17" LCD
With all the rest....smartcard reader....TV Out....etc.
It serves me well!
Its also really important to service your laptop.
Not stripping it and such, but keep it clean and neat.
If you a little about PC's you can go further and stop certain services to free up CPU power.
You should also run the app (built into Windows) msconfig.exe.
Just click start - Run....and type msconfig.exe - enter.
This will display all programs that are in your startup.
Go ahead and kill most of em. check the description on the right or location to find out what the process is.
If its 3rd party software.....de-activate it.
This will make sure your lappy is always ready to POUNCE!
