OK, as for the Big Bang - no one can dispute this if you believe in the laws of physics (even using Newton's rough estimates instead of the more accurate theory of relativity), since the universe as we know it had to begin with a singularity in space/time (when the "numbers" used to describe the universe were either zero or infinity, therefor, without meaning), as proven by Hawking.
Before that - the meaning of the singularity is not that there was anything - there was infinate mass in 0 space, and due to the strength of the forces there, time was not defined. Therefor the bibblical definition of before the creation can be true - before the big bang - there was NO TIME.
A much more interesting thought is this - the theory is that time flows forward when the matter is expanding from point 0 - the place of the big bang. And that it flows backwards if the universe was shrinking - since the energies become less complex and more pure again (a molecular connections are a more complex energy than light).
Therefor, we could all be shrinking back INTO the big bang, and we're just living everything backwards. We actually can't be sure which way "time" is "flowing". And you want us humans to define reality? |

And another interesting question - if gravity can "bend" time (as it does - according to the theory of relativity), is time really only one dimension? If time can be bent - maybe the 3 dimensions we know can be bent... or are bent, but we just can't see it because that's the way we've always lived. Or maybe because the 3 dimensions we see are of such huge scale (well, compared to us) that we don't see it. Maybe parallel lines don't meet, and maybe they meet at infinity.
According to string theory (as of today, the theory that explains physical nature the best) is surprisingly accurate with the way it expects things to act. The only downside is that it requires 11 dimensions to exist. The explanation of why we don't see them? Maybe they're curved so much that they're so small we can't even detect them.
There are so many questions about reality which are left unanswered. Some of those questions are VERY basic ones. The questions of "what is reality?" is something we cannot hope to understand. The question of "why does it work like it does?" is something we will can not answer. Even "how does it work?" will probably not be answered in our lifetimes, if ever.

Woah! What was that? Travel in time? Travel in space?
An ant is a 2d creature (or something like that) and we've just bent a dimension she wasn't aware of. We are 3d people (or 4 if you consider time), why can't dimensions beyond our comprehension be bent?

I can't agree with this qoute of Philip K. Dick...
For example: One day you are waking up with very good and uplifting mood, going out for a work/study/walk and see a stone near the road and you are amazed with its beauty...
Next day you are waking up with the mood like shit, you see the SAME stone and it is UGLY...
So, what is the REAL stone ? Nice or Ugly ??? |
