Would I need something except for a good sound card in order to record in high quality, such as a compressor?
Thanx all, Tom. |

this depends on what you define 'good quality' as. if you want really good recording quality, youll probably not want to use a sund card any way (for the recording part), youll want a digital recorder or dat. but a compressor would definitely help, i use a behringer composer, which has quite good sounds, and is very cheep (about £150 when i bought it, year and a half ago- perobably cheaper now) audio exciters also help, but i wouldnt recommend an exciter or compressor, unless you have either what i mentioned above, or a good soundcard (ie: no hiss, good frequency response), otherwise its not worth it. |

About the Layla 24: http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/Layla/Default.htm
I know infected mushroom are using it, and if i will achieve audio quality as they do, well, it's good enough for me...

I think that Infected Mushroom are doing more things to improve their sound quality except just using a good sound card. |

I'm sorry to tell you all guys, but infected only have a very old synti machine and a MIDI contoller keyboard, all the other stuff is just to make effects, like a multi effect or a sampler!
My friend knows them and they are not so full of equipment as everybody thinks, but they do have a nice soundcard! |

note, i'm not a soundman :) but,i noticed that one of the many important tips for really good sound - to listen to your music in many ways: earphones, headphones, with your speakers etc.
try to find such setup that will make your track sound as good as possible on anything, not only with your headphones. compressors help, equalizers - tooo. and play with the mixer a lot.
P.S. check this very old link out: http://www.infected.co.il/Studio/Matos/Equipment_M.htm it's about the modest equipment used more than a year ago.
