Making basslines is simply boring.....
Too much time spent on it to make it perfect, since without a good bassline you won't get anywhere. Probably the thing that demotivates me the most when making music. Did I say making music? Sorry.. I meant making a killa bassline kick track

its always good when u come out with a wicked bassline, u always feel as if it was worth spending that much time

ok and if on talking about making tracks in general:
I'm working on this track now, so much time is spent - finding sounds, going through the presets, mixing through, making the bassline perfect... all takes so much time......
but it worth it.

It can be darn frustrating to make those baselines, but like most of you say, it pays off giving them that extra time.
I would like to suggest to you Mike A,
dont concentrate too much on the baseline, if you get too bored, just do a straight full on baseline and work on the other stuff, and when you least expect it you got an idea for a killer baseline that will suite that track. Sometimes iv got sweet baselines out of the lead, and it wasn´t meant to be a baseline but it turned out that way...
so make the kick and baseline come through in the end if you cant make em fit in the beginning.
but sometimes i hate it too, after some hours of pure pain i often give up to do something else..

dont only concentrate on making a perfect bassline... Keep in mind that the rest should be given alot of time too... dont make 2-3 day tracks... wont last...
my cents

A, believe me I put enough time into making the rest
It's just that you want to make something, but you gotta finish the bassline first #$%#$@%

I think you need to try adding the bassline a bit later on the track,
make the story, add the ideas and then add the bassline - i'm sure it will not be so boring - it will get you into the story more smoothly
try it

I agree... when writing more fullon or psychedelic style anyway... the problem is like you say there is an exact sound that is required, and if you dont get it then you may as well throw the tune in the trash. This is true especially with the vb1...
I much prefer writing progressive basslines or big house basslines with a bit of melody.... you can be a lot more experimental.... it is just as important to get them eq'd correctly though, it is true...
Hmm in both cases you start to worry that your studio's acoustics/your monitoring environment is not good enough to tell you what the bassline actually sounds like in reality! (my current neurosis).

Both - the line itself also plays a major part in how it sounds, especially the note lengths when making it fast and 1/16
