my soundcard doesn't have 'record what u hear', and I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar tool that does a similar thing even if it doesn't do it as well, but allows for a file with the ouput to be downloaded?

if yes you can download Soundflowerbed and easy record from quicktime
if windows then you need to search tool smellier to Soundflowerbed
i think you can record on windows using the
camtasia studio 8
just record the video and voice then delete the video and exp as a wav file

well waddyaknow - thanks!
I'm on PC, and had actually given up hope of finding a tool that worked - I've tried various different audio editors, and screen recorders and none of them would play nicely with the Saffire LE but I thought I'd give Camtasia a go just in case and it actually can record system sounds - unlike many ... saved me a LOT of grief, thank you! May even do a few videos - we shall see!.

Np men
i know how to fix your problem how to make every recording software to work
1. go to control panel
2. then go to system
and just disable the system sound card make only your interface sound card
then go to windows sound settings and and put your interface card

I wish that had of worked, it would have saved a lot of hassles, but the only sound card installed on the computer is the Saffire LE. The other one is disabled in the BIOS, windows doesn't know it exists even.
Thanks for your effort though, I agree in 99% of cases, that would definitely normally be the problem, and is the right advice to give.
I think this is a specific issue relating to the Saffire, it has no internal re-route in the hardware, which most software uses to get at the system audio stream. Happily Camtasia seems to have written their re-route in the software itself. .
