Hypersonic : Larger Then Life

"The main version touches more commercial sounds with more clubby vibes - a full vocal version – a real song. (Will be adapted differently for his Psy-Trance album). The second version of "Larger Then Life" on this single is a full acoustic version (live drums, bass, acoustic & electric guitars, keyboards). It was initiated by Yoni after he produced the trance/electronic version.
A trance track that was modified into a real song. The additional track on this single is "A beginning of a story!" On this track Yoni collaborates with Neti Waissman - one of the best ever guitar players in Israel - a real guitar tycoon from the 80's with a unique sound which plays 6 different guitars in this track. Hypersonic's new album - "Freedom" is set for release at the 1.4.2005 and would be a strong runner for the album of the year title!"
I got this cd in the mail yesterday. It was one of many that I got and I did not have any expectations. I did laugh cynically hoping it would not a Backstreet Boys remix. It was not. The question is would I have preferred it if it was?
1. Larger Then Life (Original Version) Starts out with a very Infected beginning. The vocal samples are there from the first. Singing "even worse guy singing" in trance is not my favorite thing so before you all get upset at me for sipping at the Hate-er-ade I have always thought the mixing of Pop singing and Psychedelic Trance is a bad idea. This track proves that point. Only .33 seconds into this track Hypersonic has lost me with the pointless and embarrassing sample of an American hiphop Hypemeister yelling “Everybody Just Scream!” with the sample of a large crowd yelling and screaming. What is the point of this? To get the crowd to yell for the dj? I say if you can not do that with your music then you don’t need to have it happen. Still I forge on with as open a mind as I can muster.
A strong if not typical full on beat is professionally produced by Hypersonic with a third sample coming in at .40 with a distorted and vocoded male singing “You cant hide”. We have heard this kind of singing before with Infected Mushroom. Not a bad track when the samples are not around but they are persistent. You get the feeling that it is the vocals or the lyrics that are the primary idea in this track. A nice dubby breakdown comes in at 1:26 oh lord here comes the singing again. Am I the only one that thinks these kind of banel lyrics are over the top in trance? Perhaps epic or progressive but in full on they just sound silly. By the end of the track I decide I just don’t care for this sound at all.
2. Larger Then Life (Acoustic Version)
This version starts out like a spaced out classic rock song. As a rock song this track does better. Funky guitars, breakbeat, singing vocals are still front and center but they sound more natural as a non-trance track. Its totally eighties! Nice guitar work! Very Pink Floyd.
3. The Beginning Of A Story
A more traditional full on sound with this track. Nice stops, and mini breakdowns with a good use of strings. Then it breaks down to an epic trace eighties melody. Ultra cheesy but still good at the right time. Then after a stretch it falls into a very decent pumping and dynamic track with nice guitar bits.
Overall I think this sound of the first track does not work at all. Its overproduced and the vocals are amateur at best and the lyrics are insipid at worst. I for one do not need another infected mushroom. The third track shows more imagination and it is clear that there is talent in there but the first track shows a side to his music that sounds egotistical and overhyped to me.
This is just one person’s opinion do not hate on me for sharing it. I am sure that many people like this POP MUSIC sound. I for one got into Goa Trance to get away from that sound.

i think that are good tracks.
Larger then life - little cheesy vocals but works good 4 me, nice melody.
The begining of a story - Great full on track, i love this one. The eighties kinda style is very nice, 4 me this one is the best on this cd. |

The music sucks balls, the cover is butt-ugly and the title isn't Larger then Life, it's Lerger than life. Both are spelled wrong, since it's supposed to be: Larger Than Life. Anyway, don't waste your time on this, it isn't psytrance at all. Oh, and this should all be moved to the other topic about this, which is called Lerger than life... If my post gets deleted because of that, well.. do I sound like I give a fuck?

yeah i agree with acidhive here...
ugly cover.. like he is some trance superstar of smthg...
and the first track is just really lame.. it's backstreet boys meets psytrance... man those samples are just awfull... "i am crazy if u are crazy.. blah blah blah...
wtf... where is this singing gonna end?? i wonder sometimes...
so if u love chezzy over the top pop music maybe u can give it a shot.. otherwise do not get near this!!!

hey guys,
my opionion is that this music is very brilliant ... i love the idea to mix pop music with psy trance and i think hypersonic try to find a nice way for it ... for me its a new way to find another style as the usual stuff we hear every day ...sure it sounds not perfect..the vocals could be better produced and so on but anyway it sounds not usual for me its very important ... it also sounds a bit like infected mushroom stuff right but come on guys ...infected are the masters very many artists watch at their music
i think the larger than life cd is an very good thing and i hope he keep this style maybe a bit better produced vocals and some more serious arrangement and we have some real perfect dancefloor tracks ...for me this style has a real good future !!!

To me this cd is a step towards oblivion for psytrance. Then again, the new Lish cd was a pleasant surprise, so that counters well with this. But... (and this is a big but) if every full-on artist is going to go this way then I'm waving psytrance goodbye.

the hypersonic music is realy bad!! 
i think didy you gone to far when you say "most talent artists in israel "...i think you are much more tallent ....
hypersonic is avrrage music with no style & no fresh sound.
i didnt like any of his new music that released latly.

i apologize if i offended the artist...
i know that he has talent so why not make something more psychedelic? i mean there is enough commercial music outthere allready... so when i listen to psy i don't want to have to listen to cheezy samples and singing all over the song... |

Bizzare Didy, you certainly will not be shutting people up here, leave the moderation to us. if people wish to say something is crap they may, they sure gave a good explanation why they thought so and i certainly dont think they need to be intimidated by you or any other young artist that for some reason doesnt like negative critisism.

I think its a good release...i really liked larger than life...good pop track...and i diont care id its pop....its sounds good...the melody in the end is amazing!
acoustic version was suprisinglt not my cup though i like chilled beats more than trance..
begining of a story is indeed a really interesting track showing us how musically skilled is this guy! a really complicated track...but...i have to say it has the worst structure i heard this year.
anyway looking forward to his album...and im sure is the next superstar
