How about we throw a Mardi Gras themed Psytrance party in the New York/New Jersey area to help the Hurricane Katrina Victims?More specifically, the town of Perth Amboy New Jersey is going to use an entire empty public housing project as a temporary home for 100 families from New Orleans. I would like to raise funds for the "Perth Amboy Relief Fund". I think this a better idea than just raising money for the red cross or some other huge charity, and Perth Amboy is not exactly the wealthiest city, and needs your help.I would like to hear your comments on this idea.

I have pasted a Newspaper article below detailing the city of Perth Amboy's plans.

PERTH AMBOY — Perth Amboy is extending the welcome mat to residents left homeless by Hurricane Katrina by offering temporary housing for 100 families at the nearly vacant John Delaney Homes federal housing complex.

Mayor Joseph Vas yesterday announced the city would undertake a coordinated effort to provide temporary housing and other relief to the hurricane victims. Details on the Hurricane Katrina Relocation Effort are scheduled to be announced during a news conference 2 p.m. today at the Alexander Jankowski Community Center, 1 Olive St.

"Today I have called upon the Housing Authority of Perth Amboy to make available temporary relocation assistance for up to 100 families at the Delaney Homes housing units that have been recently vacated to make way for the eventual construction of Perth Amboy's new high school," Vas said.

Kathleen DePow, a housing authority commissioner, and Councilman Frank Sinatra will co-chair the Perth Amboy Relief Fund, which plans to provide funds for everything from teddy bears and back-to-school kits for children, rented furniture, volunteer attorneys to help fill out legal papers and a library at the complex with Internet access. The co-chairs will also be working with Raritan Bay Medical Center and the Jewish Renaissance Foundation to provide medical services. They will also ask building trade groups to teach skills so the displaced residents can be part of the recovery when they return to their home states.

"We're trying to give the people a temporary home, not a shelter," said DePow, who has a friend in Houston who has taken in 15 people left homeless by the hurricane. DePow said she wants the displaced residents to leave enriched by their experience in Perth Amboy.

"I've seen how much is given to Perth Amboy. I believe our people are just as good at giving. The people of Perth Amboy have a lot of heart," DePow said.

Temporary housing at the Delaney Homes complex, a 252-unit housing complex on a 15.5 acre site along Convery Boulevard and Chamberlain Avenue, is scheduled to run through the end of the 2005-06 school year. Because Perth Amboy High School is already overcrowded, DePow said the city is hoping to attract families with children younger than middle school age. Background checks will be done by the police department.

Vas said the idea came out of collective brainstorming with staff, council members and housing officials who expressed interest in helping the hurricane victims.

Vas, who also serves as an assemblyman in the 19th Legislative District, thanked Diane Johnson, regional director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, for authorizing the reopening of the Delaney housing complex for relief efforts.

"That's what public housing's mission is all about, for the poor and in times of emergency," Vas said. "This is what makes our country great. In times of need we come together."

The state Schools Construction Corporation announced in July that it did not have funds available for the new $100 million Perth Amboy High School planned for the Delaney Homes site. Because the new high school will not get underway during the 2005-06 school year, Vas said the property can provide a public service to the displaced residents.

"It's like creating a whole new community," said Vas, adding staff were still gathering information yesterday about how to transport people from the Gulf Coast area to Perth Amboy.

"We have to work out the logistics," Vas said.

The Housing Authority has been vacating the Delaney Homes site in hopes of using funds from the land sale to build senior citizen enhanced-care units along New Brunswick Avenue.

As of last month 140 families in the 252 Delaney units had been relocated and an additional 24 were scheduled to be relocated by the end of this month. The remaining 88 families were scheduled to be relocated by the end of this year.

Douglas Dzema, authority executive director, said he is working with the city and HUD to prepare 100 apartment for use by hurricane victims. He said some units are in need of repair, as well as appliances such as refrigerators and ranges.

Vas said the city has reached out to state and county agencies about accessing federal funds dedicated toward the relief effort.

Vas said the city's relief fund, Perth Amboy Relief Fund, has been activated to accept donations of money.

"Any level of monetary donation will certainly go a long way to help," Vas said. "While Perth Amboy is not a wealthy community, we are rich at heart. At this critical time we will extend a helping hand to those most needy and do our part to help alleviate some of the suffering of these devastated Americans."

Donations by check or cash can be sent to the Perth Amboy Relief Fund at the City Clerk's Office, Perth Amboy City Hall, 1st floor, 260 High St., Perth Amboy, N.J. 08861.

Additional information may be obtained by calling City Hall at (732) 826-0290, Ext. 4021.

NOW you can have that party close to your backyard PIESCES!!! All you need to do is raise the topic again and this time inform authorities so nobody's equipment might eventually get confiscated.

When some event is of a "fundraiser" character they tend not to bother you...right?!
