Human Element just released his first EP on his own recently launched digital label Mikrokosmos Digital. We check out whether the two tracks are worthy of your attention.
Human Element
Human Element is the solo producing project of Martin Knecht. Active on the Swiss scene and beyond as Dj Martin since 1998, his reputation has grown exponentially in the last decade. Particularly notable his collaboration with Liquid Soul that has given the rise to many notable tracks under the Earsugar project.
Together they have also launched the Mikrokosmos label, that has released some of the finest Progressive Psy compilations of the last few years. Since September 2009 the label has also embraced the digital world and this EP is the second digital only release they have published, after the single Zyce – Strange Fragments.
Human Element – Breaking the 4th Wall EP (Mikrokosmos Digital)
1. BeingIn (Original Mix)
The EP kicks off with BeingIn, a fairly slow paced track, at least relative to Psychedelic Progressive standards. The rather unusual bassline reminds a little bit the one used in the remix of Vertex – Cold Chord by the same artist. The percussions arrangement is fairly sophisticated and appears to, not unsurprisingly, take some inspiration from the Tech-House genre. The melodic sounds are not the most original we have heard, but make this track an ideal tool to be used in the early stage of a Progressive Psychedelic set.
2. Breaking the 4th Wall (Original Mix)
For once is the second track that gives the title to the EP. Also Breaking the 4th Wall is part of the fairly recent wave of slower paced Progressive Psy tracks. This production uses a fairly traditional kick and bassline, however compared to BeingIn the melodic arrangement is the track main strength. In fact this is one of the best melodic Psy Progressive track we have heard lately, especially thanks to the great progression in the second half of the song that we are sure will do great damage on the dancefloors. A true stormer to spin in the peak moments of a set.
Verdict: Breaking the 4th Wall is an EP geared towards those looking for a slower paced Progressive Psy music, but have not yet given up on the uplifting melodic Trance arrangements in favor of the trendy tech-electro House sounds. Particularly impressive is the track that gives the title to the EP, one of the best melodic Psy Progressive song of the last couple of months.
Tracks to not miss in order of preference: 2, 1.
