I dislike long rising kick/snare rolls and cheesy risers. Just cheap tricks that are usually found in tracks that lack interesting music and sound design.

Its all about taste and all that, but if I wanted to hear huge build ups I'd go to a club where DJs play David Guetta tracks.

Peace out.

on goa i like them, there is some great build up that make your trance state peak high and great reaction on the floor.
on full on there is huge build up but most of the time nothing after it that deserve a build up..best way to cut the leggs. for me full on is often too slow in is flow ,too much minimal to get great effective built up like on goa . it don't really work with full on imo

bulid ups only when there are good melodies.. otherwise maybe one big break in an hour is ok or in two . I like it more trance when flying especialy. Although the build ups from Perfect STranger are grea.. his risers are great imo. Eventhough for sure its outdated I guess.
Cpc has got also a pice with a riser that goes like on atleast 32 bars that is mad it sound not like switzerands cheese but most standart full on risers are cheese.          https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

I like long buildups, but only when they build when the kick and bass are in, or some large beat element is in (i.e. lots of perc, rhythmic synth, or something) , so none of those slow buildups with some stupid present from massive playing some horrible progression while the snare rolls.

Preferably the buildup is accompanied by brain twisting rising sounds (not just a sine) that evolve over the build up and culminate in audial havoc, leaving the listener thinking that the integrity of the speakers may have been compromised in the playback of the recording. Then post buildup the drop must be so incredibly groovy and so phat that everyone begins crying.

The answer is very simple,if the track is good (and what comes after the break worth the anticipation and tention it creates),then long break is ok.           From all the things I lost, that sandwitch cost me most :)

By the way, build up does not mean breakdown.
Build up as in them long 8ths, 16th, 32nds....etc with the volume going up with risers and shit.

I think some got the wrong idea.

Peace out.

Build ups is old and boring. It is one of those things that turns me off. Nothing spiritual or beautifull happening its just a show off of meaningless stuff. One or two during a set is enough. Just keep the beat going switch a track so i don't notice, don't go glitch on me please ruins everything. I hate this stuff man. Just keep it going and going please don't confuse the dancer let people dance . At least its the way i like it. I hate stupid zillion years build up that leads to kick and bass . Oh I love goldrays

Pitch it higher than ever... like old Eskimo used to, super intricate kick trix then do the hand movements and drop the mutherfucken bass bass bass bass (delay tail fading on fullon rolling bassline).

I personally don't like the risers that go on for too long and are predictable.

However, I've seen crowds go fucking nuts from such builds..and when there's 500+ people all loving something and you're in the middle of it its hard to be snooty.

In the end its a taste thing.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe
