Hey guys ,lets speak more about harmonical mixing
pleaz.
--------If you move up one step(from C to C# or B to C etc)
the new record will use completely different set of notes than the one were you just playing ,and so the change will be very dramatic. To be honest ,most Dj who key their records are interested only in this thing .This is a mixing style most closely associated with TRANCE and PROGRESSIVE HOUSE.
As Anthony Pappa explains,"Say you're playing a record in a certain key ,and it goes down to just a drums. Then if you bring in another record in the right key, when bassline comes in ,it gives an energy lift because it act like a key change."---------(the article has been stolen from "how to DJ right"(book))
So ,lets keep on about that , (any coments)(any tips and triks with keys or about harmonic mixing):-) thnx for attention.
Yes ,and i have been reading posts in betmaching and wnat more on that (this topic)----:magic:------

Well, I dont think you can control it.
If you have a 135 bpm track in C, and 136 track in A, you have to pitch up the first one just a bit, and you'll have C#, or D - not A.

Most progressive house tunes are starting only with the beat, and ending in a same way, so you dont actually have problems with harmony.

There is plenty of CD decks with timestretch now, and software like traktor or live have the facility also.
So you can mix in beat and in tune.

It sure can affect how the change between a couple of tracks appear.
And obviously also how they sound together as well.
So if you are playing a bit melodic stuff it's for sure something worth practicing I would say.

If you trying to do long beatmixes with tracks that has really clear melodies they might of course be using different scales anyway, so doing it with very melodic tracks is maybe not a great idea still.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Indeed, a point there.
Although I'm usually playing on Pioneer100s and turntables, so I was reffering to that.

i have traktor, use it at home only, and I like the timestrech button to keep the track in its original sound

No ,
but i ment if you mix both records with same BPM
but with other keys ,like C and C#(for shure ,you never should forget about rythm and other specifics which made you your track seat in da time)----------
its go to the drums ,with out a bassline of first track and then its come back with other track and new bassline etc but in C#.
And also about harmoniacal mixing:when you mix records in the same key (for example A and A minor),it seats like an perfect one for ages( a rythm and structure its also in account).
So its exist ?If yes ,so some boddy can share some knowlege ? and tips, triks with more longer sets progressions ?
thnx for attention.

i just test songs... if they don't fit harmonically, i don't mix them... i never mix tracks that i have never mixed at home either... I like to do mixes of at least 2mins (except when it's impossible ofcourse), so the songs really have to fit together... with the EQ on the mixer u can usually go a long way to solving small clashes... I dunno, i never really bothered with this kind of stuff... If a mix sounds good it's usable, if it sounds bad, just don't mix those songs... Why try? anyway, pitching something up 1 bpm won't add more then a few cents to the pitch of a sound... U really have to pitch up/down very hard to get to a semitone... (8.34% to be exact)

Yes ,you right ,if you mix both records and they fit together ,so that mean they match perfectly(rythm, structure and other components) but also it doesnt mean that they will fit harmonicaly.
Yes, in some reasons you should't get in to that(harmonical mixing) ,just because you read good, the rythm, and when you mix them ,you match the rythm and other components witch not including harmonical and they fit good together.
And there is still a question ,why popular DJ's speak about that?and for example with Anthony Pappa ,i have others examples in that book("How to DJ right")with other DJ's speak about that harmonical mixing.
I am not trying to bother ,i just want top hear some coments about that from people .Also in that book ,they sad that its a very high level ,to able to mixing in that - harmonical mixing style-.
Thnx for attention

Well, to honest - I never tought about the harmonies in my mixing.
I stick to the rhythm.
But progressive tracks that I play, usually have long intros and outros with beat only.

(also from that site)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What is harmonic mixing?
If you want to take your mixing skills to the next level, you should seriously consider harmonic mixing. Harmonic mixing is the art of mixing recorded music together in perfect harmony using the basic rules of key and chord compatibility in modern music.

Enjoy your stay and good luck with your harmonic mixing!!

Hi everybody,
I came back with some news:

" It's not only mixed in BPM, but in key, and I made special edits of some of the tracks I selected."(Armin Van Buuren)--speaks about new cdmix wich will out in 12 march05 -------and its interesting ,he finaly decide to put hes mix in keys?-
Yes its might be and for shure, after all components of music(harmony, melody, rythm)will math, you can bravely wath out for the keys. hmmm...
Personaly i didnt knew that all that story with harmonical mixing will go far that(i speak about, that one day i will se that even Armin do that)
Since i like to dj too and have been cheked that harmonical.... and had been disapointed ,cause just harmonicaly... it will not seat good ,you should account rythm, harmony, melody too.
And thats is the picture.hmmmm...
---------------------------------------------------------
So ,any advices ,coments about that and more longer sets with specifecal key progressions...(thnx)
