yesterdays tech?
no!
the psyscene is just a scene where vinyl is not on vogue. if you go into electro/tech/house vinyls are still state of the art. |

maybe not state of the art(see wellknown djs playin with ableton or pcs generally)but still widely used!
with the vinyl u give ur mix a"touch"of you and thats imo whats makin it so fascinating!
and i cant understand why in psytrance scene they r not used nearly at all...

hey texmex thx for the link, i really enjoyed to watch it
..sure vinyl is nice and warm as analog sounding, but the reason why we don't use it in scene that much cose of open air's partys, it's nearly imposseble to play from vinyl on the beach or deep forest..

the biggest problems with vinyl :
they're heavy ... ever lifted 100 vinyls ? compare that to a cd-wallet with 100 cds
they're big ... ever took 100 vinyls to a gig ? you surely need a car, no way to take them in the train (ok with 100 ... maybe)
they're very sensitive ... get damaged very easily - with cds, you make a copy of the original and that's it. if you lose it or it gets damaged, you just buy a new one.
on the other hand - they tend to sound better, at least for progressive trance imho. |

+ They melt in the sun. I think the "warmer sound" is a bit of a myth. Yes, indeed when the cd came, they didn´t sound that good, but the dithering have become better.
Easier to mix than with cd´s, though.

I used to play Vinyle at parties before CD, and then later together with CD's. They sound quite different and the mastering is different, records are indeed heavy, the get scratches and dust, they can melt and bend, but they are cool to play and nice to watch spinning and you can see the breaks in the thickness of the grooves etc, I used to think particular records sounded better than the same track on CD, in the warmth of the bass sometimes, but the mid and hi end is more open and clear on CD.
Vinyle is good for music since you cant copy it, CD's lead to more piracy and less sales...
