How to use gate effects on drums ?

Hi anyone who can explain how a gate effect can be used on drumssounds like snare and hihats in a song ?
Please recomend a gate effect i could use.
Thankful for any help

u can try manual gating, by using split silences and volume fade outs, but i used the sonnox dynamic channel strip if i use one really simple, i asked a question about using gates as an FX but i then realised u need to experiment, what ever sounds good.. iz good (realisticly talking)

if your one-shot sample of snare is no good, and you dont have many others then a gate could be applyed to tidy up splills n shitty harsh transients also i learned the other week an envelope or transient shaper works just as good.
or if u synthisize u can adjust to how u want it from the core controls.
i use micotonic, u can tune the snare to the rest of your tracks very easily
