The wiki article is probly a bit confusing...
Its probly best to understand just with a synth that either has or plugin in oscilloscope.
Think of a square wave as a pulse with its width set to 100%...It will look like a square on the oscilliscope..

A pulse is a square wave with its width less than a 100%, making it look more rectangler.
PMW is what would happen if you took the width knob with your hand and moved it back and forth...At a slow rate the waveform will morph back and forth, at fast rates it will sound like a new waveform.

i use PWM just to create different oscilator sounds ,
lets say im tired of usin the classic waves sounds so i go to the PWM and turn it left or right as elad said till i get a nice sound...
i think its not that important to understand what PWM is but for what it s used for ....
just to get different sounds out of ur oscilator .
the same apply for FM and AM ( tho i never got something cool from AM yet )
