I don't really know how to creatively use this waveform property... any tips? |

me too i don t use it much, mostly for some kind of electro/house/techno sound ,osc detuned or unisson with or wihtout distortion, i like it for some fx sounds too(lot of cool fx sound you can make with it ,try a lfo on the level+ pan and a flexible envelope on the pitch with slow attack that kind of stuff)
you can make some intresting sounds with modulation the pw with a fast lfo (you can modulate one positive and a other oscillator negative for example )it can make some good leads and pads |

If you go to access-music.de you can see a PWM tutorial explained using the virus. Even if you don't have the virus you can still get a good idea from the tutorial as to what it does.

thanks! gonna check it, talking about the virus i really miss one feature, for some that never tried link the portamento to the cut off and then modulate it, you can make some fucking good leads that way (work great with these 3dv/nutek kind of leads ) |

do you mean that filtercutoff is moving like the pitch if you play legato notes? or simple a pitchenvelope that also is linked to the filter?

He is talking about modulating portamento and cutoff on an arpeggio. (You can't really link the cutoff to the portamento directly on the TI although you can have them be modulated from different or the same sources.)

Find a modular synth, assign an LFO with a PWM waveform to oscillator pitch, amp, filter cut-off, resonance and play around with the pulse's width as you change the LFO frequency. The Doepfer LFOs are going up to 5kHz! Mad FM stuff you get from modulating the pulse width in the audible frequencies, so try the same with an oscillator.
Alternatively, get a (couple) square wave oscliitors and start playing with its width. I like single square sounds with the width slightly off.

No, it's not tremolo.
If you can't be bothered to take the time to read things for yourself, why should we take the time to hold your hand and cut it up into little pieces for you to chew easier?

The wiki article is probly a bit confusing...
Its probly best to understand just with a synth that either has or plugin in oscilloscope.
Think of a square wave as a pulse with its width set to 100%...It will look like a square on the oscilliscope..
http://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~hill/papers/synthesizer/images/origsqwv.png
A pulse is a square wave with its width less than a 100%, making it look more rectangler.
PMW is what would happen if you took the width knob with your hand and moved it back and forth...At a slow rate the waveform will morph back and forth, at fast rates it will sound like a new waveform. |

it s a bit like the filter is moving with the pitch but not exactly, the more you open it the more the portamento time ,(you should not use legato mode or it ll reset the effect, but maybe it can make some cool sound when notes overlap dunno)
i was using that with hp filter it sound a bit like the more you open it the more the sound is detuned |
