this is too basic of a question. There are a million ways to answer it. What kind of effects? what kind of synths do you have access to? etc

My advice? get a hold of one synth and learn the fuck out of it and don't touch anything else for a couple of months at least. Then when you have more of a grasp on synth terminology and knowledge you will be able to ask better questions on forums like this.

If you are new to synths and don't have the option of acquiring a hardware synth I would suggest you pick up Sylenth1 - a great sounding subtractive synth that you can use to get a huge variety of different things out of.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Of course i can, but in the end, u also need to use search by yourself when u need.
if you go to youtube and write "synthesis tutorial", u can find a couple of interesting video.

and many others.

As will said, learn how to use 1 synth first and then expand.
Read the manual of everything you use, it definitely helps a lot to improve your knowledge imo

yeah, just force yourself to a "no presets" diet!!!

you'll improve a lot! there are some magazines that have issues to answer those questions: like synthesis, fx design... search for computer music, music tech, future music...

someone said here for you to pick one synthesizer and stick to it until you know it inside out. double that! best advice you can get!

i agree, ditch the presets and grag a small hand full of synths / effects, and lean them by heart. Learn what EACH KNOB does, how they interact with each other. Learn what you're looking for and how to achieve it - and don't worry if you can't make the synth sing in the beginning, it also took you some time to start speaking.

Most of the times whenever I want a specific sound, I'll load up an instance of Operator, that will play just a simple sine wave, and I build it on from there - and learning what makes a sound, brings you to higher level of understanding with an audio signal.

Nevertheless, the more you learn about synths, the more you realize of what they can do and the possibilities. Just experiment away!

Also, it's better to ask more specific questions to get detailed answers.           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

If you have Massive, buy this.. It cost almost nothing and it explains every knob in a very understandable way. And you can create insane sounds with that monster
