Is this an old thread????

Music industry model has been changed.......record labels are not needed anymore........distributors .....not needed anymore..........

What he said, although the mass market is not exactly on that level yet, but it will be soon enough.

Who is going to be the Trent Reznor of the psy-scene? Will shall soon find out.

this is where I was hoping the psy-scene would be different.....the psy community doesn't actually need anything like that..... the further we get away from egos and personalities the better.           http://www.whatacunt.co.uk/

You rang?

Ektoplazm is the first psytrance label to release professionally mastered material in MP3 and CD-quality WAV for free download while selling physical media on-demand.

At the moment we've only got two EPs out but there is a lot more to come in the next few months (two full-length artist albums, several compilations, more EPs).

Our friends at PAR-2 Productions have recently joined us in this initiative. You can download Jikkenteki's latest album for free on Ektoplazm and he's also got a bunch of signed copies for sale.

This new distribution method is perfectly suited to modern listening habits. We don't make any money at it yet but I consider what we are doing to be an investment in the future...

Anyhow, visit my site if you would like to check out what we have to offer. Ektoplazm amalgamates quality netlabel releases of interest to psytrance listeners--this is what you will see under the "free music" section. Our official releases can be easily accessed from the sidebar to the left; look under "Ektoplazm Discography." Much more will be coming soon...

At some point you need to stop simply talking about the state of affairs on message forums and get to doing something about the situation

Friendly chap, aren't you!

What exactly do you suppose people will find if they journey in the direction you have pointed them in?

My investment of time in Ektoplazm is firmly rooted in an attempt to turn words into action... to go beyond these cyclical discussions of the various possibilities and actually make something happen. My business is the legitimization of free digital distribution as a means of releasing music in this scene. It is my attempt to address many of the systematic problems of the modern psytrance world: rampant music piracy, stylistic homogeneity, market saturation, the creative limitations of the bottom line, the deplorable business practises that frequently come out here on Isratrance, and more. Sorry if discussing what I am involved in seems like gratuitous self-promotion to you, but I can think of nothing better than to lead by example in discussions such as these. It is either that or we can cynically speak of what people aren't doing until the sun grows cold.

Why not help empower the individual as opposed to trying to control the flow through a central hub for your own means and then wrap it up in the pretense that is it for the greater good of us all.

How am I not empowering the individual? I provide free hosting for numerous netlabels and independent artists. I regularly help out with the packaging process (encoding, tagging, licensing, and so on). I share my skills and knowledge liberally without asking for anything in return. I do not control how content providers disseminate their releases--they can do as they like, and I would certainly respect any request to remove content from my site (which has never happened). The use of a central hub--my web site--concentrates traffic and increases exposure for all involved. Don't you think that the people releasing the music want to be heard?

I feel that your vitriolic response is complete nonsense. It seems you object to the fact that I am benefiting from my hard work and expertise... but that is what synergy is all about. Everyone benefits!

In amidst your various attacks I sense that you envision a world where producers are free to promote and distribute themselves without interference from anyone else. Well, anyone is free to set up a MySpace profile and put some tracks online, and many do. There are, however, much more effective means of promoting music online. This can require some special skills and capabilities or proper resources such as a good web host. You will find that many producers would rather spend time in the studio than dicker around with setting up a powerful web presence. Think about it: if you were a producer would you rather work on the next album or get up to speed on the intricacies of web development? The Internet does not render labels and distributors obsolete; it merely changes the playing field. There will always be a use for intermediaries between musicians and their audience.

The internet can render labels and distributors obsolete........we just have to choose that path.........De-centralisation of power is what is required.......changing the playing field is just another lazy arse short-term stop gap.....which will result in just a few gaining control of the flow.........who are you trying to kid?           http://www.whatacunt.co.uk/
